I put Bestop TrailMax II High back Bucket Jeep seats from summit in my 1992 M998. They worked out OK. They were priced right. They are a tight fit, but we like them. It changes the M998 experience a lot.
The passenger seat and driver seat mounting is wildly different, of course. I don't...
I picked up this antenna base at a hamfest. The mount will fit directly on my M998. It has no part number or placard on it.
I dont know what the element/whip would look like or what freqs this was intended for. Or if I can find something for this antenna to complete it.
I have radio test...
I ended up making my own using Pressure Treated Yellow pine. I planed down the side slats and kept the seat slats at full 5/4 milled lumber.
I am happy to supply a complete set to anyone. I have a bandsaw mill if you want a specific wood. Just contact me.
I got my M998 back from the shop with new heads and water pump.
There were a few "extra" parts in the back that weren't there when I brought it in.
Anybody know what these are? (Attached)
Many thanks.
It is the Time Delay Module that burned up..
After the shop replaced the heads on the engine they mis-wired the batteries (I have the before and after pictures) and then jump started it... I had the machine towed out of there before they could do even more damage. Now I am...
Any body know what this is on my M998?
It is on top of the left front fender under the hood.
Whatever it is it gave up the smoke it was holding inside.
Any info is appreciated.
I have the heads off the machine. It appears there was a head gasket leak around number 7 cylinder.
The engine machine shop says they cant be milled (previously milled?). Otherwise the heads are OK.
The number on the head casting is 10137567. We are trying to determine the best course of...
I have my M998 in the shop. I need a recommendation on Remanufactured heads or head kits. I thought I saw some on jegs, but am now having issues finding them.
Any recommendation for buying 6.2l reman'd heads?
I am posting additional diagnostics info. I used a "Reld" test. The diagnostic clearly indicates that I have exhaust gas in the coolant even though you can't see it,
All the symptoms:
Some significant valve? noise
Apparent over-pressure on cooling system. (new leaks, over flow tank bulging...
I am been thinking along those lines. Maybe a bit of wishful thinking that it is not head gasket. I am going to look/smell again in the coolant for bubbles and /or exhaust fumes.
What did you do when you finally determined it was a head gasket? Were you thinking it was a cracked block/head?
I am looking for advice and parts for the wood slats on my troop carrier benches. Some are rotten and need to be replaced. Some are in fine condition.
After planning down a piece it appears to be white oak. It looks pretty straightforward to make my own replacement slats. Before I make make...
I am chasing water leaks. It continues.
- Surge Tank Crack -- Fixed with OEM tank
- Thermostat Housing -- Fixed with new thermostat, thermostat housing, gasket and permatex.
- Now I am seeing spray around the back of the water pump pulley at 220 degrees
Any advice of water pump...
Some follow up on the Surge tank lesson.
I weighed the cheap knock off and the OEM tank.
The weights below are both square bottom 12340061 (Square Bottom). The original 12340062 (Round Bottom) " is shown in this pic.
Cheap Knock-off ---- 1 Lb. 11.7 Ozs

Thanks!! @Mogman and @Milcommoguy
Sorting the wheat from the chaff with the good quality and the absolute junk parts is great help. It is terrific aspect of having knowledgeable folks (who have the experience) on the forum.
I will buy what is recommended today from AMG.
After I cobbed...
