I have changed all of mine to dot 3 when I made to change over I flushed the system with alcohol.
That is what my clutch and brake supplier recomended. Haven't had any issues with water/rust/pitting but I do bleed the cylinders yearly with a power bleeder. As for heat build up the brakes on...

Check this out. I got two new still in the box drums to fix both trucks. Who would think to check for cracks, duh! As I was tighting the drive shaft bolts it became apparent I should have.
