    M1009 wiring questions

Well two steps forward and three steps back. Situation normal. I managed to work through the 24v to 12v roscommon conversion. Installed the ST85 solenoid in place of a glow plug relay, figured out the starter relay was missing and worked through the doghead relay conversion. Still chasing some...

    M1009 wiring questions

Okay - found a little time to get back on this today and working through the Roscommon 12v conversion PDF for my wiring. Starting to get some progress - I got to where it talks about bypassing the glow plug resistors by going from the positive terminal block to the glow plug relay. Which is when...

    M1009 wiring questions

Giving this some thought... the donor 6.2 came from a civilian truck which had a good starter. I think what I should do here is swap that starter back on and go though the roscommon conversion wiring diagrams as my starting point. That also let's me use the alternator from the donor. I'll check...

    M1009 wiring questions

I'll try to get a couple of picture loaded but I'm not certain how helpful they will be. We had the entire engine bay stripped out while the engine replacement was happening. And when I got the truck much of the wiring was already disconnected.

    M1009 wiring questions

Sorry to bug you guys with this but I am working on getting a M1009 (1984 i think) back on the road (to be my boys high school rig) after it was in a flood and sat for a long time. We've swapped in a running 6.2 from a donor truck and done a ton of other stuff and I am at the point where i want...

    M1009 fuel system upgrade

I'm working on a 1984 M1009 that will be my boys high school truck. An opportunity for them to learn a little bit about how to work on cars and all that. We're not trying to keep it all original so a few upgrades happening. Anyways, we've done quite a bit of work already including replacing the...

    M880 Wheel Bearings Question

The -20 finally got me straightened out on what I was looking at in that diagram. The oil slinger was what was confusing me. Once I realized that then it all made sense again. Sadly I do think my passenger side hub/rotor assembly is worn out - when installing on the truck the inner bearing came...

    M880 Wheel Bearings Question

So I have both my front wheel bearing assemblies removed while replacing the bearings and doing a brake job. I started second guessing myself during reassembly and now have gotten thoroughly confused by what I am reading on the interwebz about how it goes back together - to the point that I am...

M880 Dana 44 axle shaft nut

Thanks Bob, turns out a friend of mine had a civvie W200 sitting in his hayfield for the last decade or so. The axle shaft nut on it came off normally. Not sure why mine was froze up so bad. By the way - I'd like to do a brake job while I have eveything apart but I don't want to replace the...

M880 Dana 44 axle shaft nut

I had to heat up my passenger side axle shaft nut on my Front Dana 44 until it glowed orange before the %$#$ thing would budge. Now I don't know that I trust the steel after being that hot (it has that gray color to it which makes me think I may have normalized it). Does anyone know of a source...

    Freeze Plugs

Quick question - anyone know what size the freeze plugs are on these 318's? I assume they are all the same size - but in particular I need to replace the one by the starter motor.

    318 running poorly -

The 1990 had an automatic but it was 2-wheel drive rather than 4-wheel drive. I'll see if I can check the timing this evening. This will be the first time I've done that - I assume the Haynes/Chiltons manual procedures are pretty straight-forward for that? I have the military manuals also -...

    318 running poorly -

The 318 in my M880 is around 95,000 miles (if the OD is accurate) and has picked up a few bad habits this year. Smoking (blue-gray smoke) on start. Rough idle. Pinging under heavy load. I have my yearly off-roading trip coming up in October and need my tow rig in good working order. I am...

    M880 rear axle selection

I would go 60/70 - the 70 will handle a larger gearset (up to 7.70) if you want later on. That's what came with the 92' W250 that I will be dropping an M880 body on in the future. (along with 6BT - A518 - and NP205)

    Brake Lights..etc..

Bad ground through the mounting bolts caused similar issues for me when I installed a new wiring harness. So I cheated - and ran a ground wire from cab/frame and bed/frame. Haven't had a problem since.
