After much consideration, I’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with repairing this generator.
Based on the information I’ve been finding and the advice shared here, the repairs that may still be necessary are moving beyond my current mechanical knowledge. In addition, my lack...
Well new fuel pump installed, old one was definitely bad. I am starting to get to the end of my technical skill set. It seems to be intaking through exhaust. Has this jumped timing? That could help explain why it has bent push rods.
I have not read through the tech manuals for this issue, just...
If I had received this from a surplus site I would have been more cautious, but the story I got was that this unit was in service throughout COVID on a mobile dental trailer. Which kind of makes sense, it had brief moments of high power needs, but not enough to keep it from wet stacking.
I...
Well this turned out to be a positive experience. The fuel started coming out slowly, so I went ahead and ordered new filters and started the install. The fuel had a non-diesel smell and non-diesel feel to it. The fuel tank was full to the bottom of the fill spout, but it ain't no more. Drained...
I have all the manuals from the site. Including the -24 maintenance manual. I did not find what was suggested till I looked in the TM 9-6115-642-24-OLD.pdf that is part of the problem, there are different revisions of this manual and they are quite different. I literally have three different...
I've been reading through the TM 9-611-642-10 manual as suggested. I have not found the section that would suggest what to do. Under Table 3-1 Troubleshooting it doesn't talk about the fault lights.
1. Engine fails to crank.
Step 1. Check that DEAD CRANK switch is in the NORMAL position.
Plain...
I hadn't noticed this before. S1 in any position other than off or pre-heat gives me a fault light of "Over Voltage" could this be preventing start?
Clears on using Test/Reset Lamp, but returns from power cycle.
This is all good information that I will investigate more. I am curious though (can't find an answer in the forum). But what is the actual numbering of these relays? I am having difficulty finding a layout diagram or a wire number that is readable in the manual to pair it up. It is also quite...
Greetings everyone. Lots of progress has been made. Engine is reassembled, everything is put back together except for mounting the muffler, engine top cover panel, and side doors.
1) Full charge on batteries.
2) Bled fuel system with Dead Crank Switch and holding fuel shut off arm over.
3)...
Not the intake manifold bolts, the head bolts there are four regular bolts and four with threaded studs on top. I’ve been scouring through pictures online but not seeing exactly where to put (too much stuff in the way).
I am working on the rebuild this week. Ran into a stumble though. I can’t remember which holes on the manifold (intake) side of engine get the bolts and which get the ones with the studs. The manual only shows two of them and the text is vague. Does it just alternate bolt then stud all the way...
I've been slowly acquiring parts. With Christmas and New Years coming up, I will be taking some time off work and digging back into this generator.
For anyone that has parts that are caked up with the creosote, I discovered a large ultrasonic cleaner from Vevor did a good job. I ran it several...
