Definitely don't have those on my 1009. I have been pulling the starter quite a bit recently and there are no braces. As for the cracked trans, the same happened to me with two different housings. The solution was simple: weld back together and pay the driveline shop for a new driveshaft...

I called every dismantler I can find in my area and turned up with squat, Does anybody have a source where they can get this part? Dealership all list discontinued and cannot find it. BTW: GM14033879

Exactly what I ended up doing. The stud I welded in is much beefier now.
