This was my experience..
Had my 27MT rebuilt. When I got it back it spun that 6.2 diesel like a 350 with no spark plugs in it. But every once in a while it would not crank. Took it back to the shop twice and they still couldn't figure it out. We finally said enough was enough and put a 28MT...
Forgot to update..
The Howell EFI custom wiring harness and custom programmed ECU did the trick. The 5.7 Vortec moves the ole M1008 with ease. Gas mileage ain't that great, but It'll pin me in the seat when I step on it.
A.4L80E swap is on the list..
While you have water pump off, perfect time to swap in a new harmonic balancer as well. Cheap insurance for a 6.2 diesel.... * the balancer is a known weak spot.
Be prepared to spend lotsa money lol
*IF you decide to buy one, swap out the harmonic balancer with a new one asap. That is a known weak spot with a 6.2 diesel. It may look okay, but that rubber is hard n dry and it can fly apart.... and when that happens there goes your engine.
What did I do to my 86' M1008 aka the 💩box truck? I threw more money at it😂
*Ordered a custom programmed ECU and wiring harness from Howell EFI. It should be here this week.
I bit the bullet and have a custom ECU and wiring harness from Howell EFI on order. Hopefully this will get it running like it should
*Nobody could get my ECU to hold a tune
I drove it over the wknd to get a feel for what it needs tuning wise. From my calculations the mileage was 12-13mpg on country hwy, backroads and a lil bit of stopn go.... *I kept it no higher than 55mph
It was about what I expected. Hopefully getting it tuned will improve the mileage
