What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

For a vehicle that is so simple in general, it has proven challenging to sort out the electrical. I went through the harness once but looks like I need to give it another careful look over.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Either air or a failed pump are definitely possible. I made new lines after getting the truck but wasn’t too happy with how they turned out. I have an AN kit I was planning to use and may end up installing it. Getting those rubber lines connected to the sending unit is a pain and hopefully AN...

Tha That’s a great setup. I should do a rear view mirror style camera on my M1010 as well. I have a camera that works through my phone but it can be laggy and this looks a lot better integrated.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Finally have some time to work on my M1010 again. It sat since summer last year. I had used it to travel out of state for a camping trip and it started surging when I would let off the throttle about 2 hours into the trip. After sitting for a while, I tried starting it and it was blowing an...

Correct. The blue wire goes to the fuel pump to the passenger box heater on my M1010 ambulance.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I spent the last couple of weekends chasing the electrical issues in my M1010. It was blowing an aftermarket fuse on an ignition wire to the 12V bulkhead adjacent to the master cylinder when I keyed on. I pulled the harness and looked it over, replacing damaged wires and putting it back to stock...

    85 M1010 Resto/Build Thread

Those radios look so cool! I have been shopping around for radios to install into my M1010. I have a general class ham license and am excited to have a mobile shack. Thanks for sharing!

Rivnuts that spin are a drag. I assume getting to the back to hold them with a vice grip isn’t possible? If not, it might be worthwhile to tack them with a welder to keep them captive and remove the bolts or drill them out. If you have a welder handy or know someone who does.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I worked on getting my M1010 to start. It’s been down since last year and I have spent a lot of time trying to diagnose why it keeps blowing a fuse under the hood. A previous owner had installed an in-line fuse holder that holds a 30 amp fuse and it pops as soon as I turn the key to “on.” In...

    85 M1010 Resto/Build Thread

I had no issues. I kept it at around 55mph the whole way, so it took a bit longer than typical in other vehicles. I loved it though. I’ve spent today working on mine after it developed an issue where it blows a fuse installed by a previous owner. Its a fuse that ties into the ignition circuit...

Very cool! I’m working on an M1010 in central Mass. It makes a great travel vehicle, assuming 55mph is okay.

    M1010 1600 mile road trip

Made it back! 1700 mile round trip. I drove to Bald Eagle State Forest to camp on the way down. I entered Bald Eagle State Forest into my GPS and started driving. Once I was close to my “destination,” I was routed off the highway and up a dirt road on a mountain. The road started getting...

    M1010 1600 mile road trip

I worked on the truck all day last Friday, then the heater stopped working Saturday morning. I found a wire to the blower motor had fatigued into. A quick job with my butane soldering iron and the heater works again. Yesterday, I couldn’t get the truck to start and eventually found that the...

    M1010 1600 mile road trip

My wife tells me every day “That vehicle is not a daily driver.” My trips to and from work and everywhere else I go says otherwise! I love driving this thing!

    M1010 1600 mile road trip

I was considering dropping by Hillbilly Wizard along the way to pick up some bits, time permitting. May make some friends if things start to break. Ha!
