Northeast folks... good luck in todays storm

That's ok Ray. Thanks for the offer though! As nice and convenient the Generacs are, they are still powered by lawnmower engines. Over the years my neighbors have had issues with theirs. At one point it wouldn't run on its weekly test because the oil was low. Not sure what the outcome of that...

Northeast folks... good luck in todays storm

My wife doesn't understand why I bought an expensive generator that has to be fussed with regularly. Our neighbor has a nat gas whole house Generac that, according to her, just works. I told her that me "expensive" generator was much cheaper to install that our neighbors . By far. I told her...

Northeast folks... good luck in todays storm

Living on the seacoast of NH, I was expecting the worst. Officials, including our power company, Unitil, said to expect the loss of power due to the high winds. They said that the crews would not attempt repairs until the winds died dow. Ran the 802 the day before. I have extra fuel on hand so...

MEP-803A blowing white smoke and not running smooth, looking for suggestions

That was going to be my suggestion. In leu of a compression tester, you can use your ears to a fairly accurate degree. Seeing as you have an identical 2nd unit, I would use the dead crank switch and compare the sound while cranking. Even a small-ish loss in compression should be apparent.

    Fried Volt Meter

I shouldn't laugh, but.... The last 2 power outages we've had were both caused by squirrels.

    Fried Volt Meter

I was 40 feet away from a 4160v short. Fortunately there were 2 reinforced concrete walls between the event and me. I was in the control room doing logs when there was a very bright flash with a simultaneous BOOM. Also simultaneously the lights went out replaced by alarms and the sound of two...

Trying a new idea for the exhaust on my 802a

Probably not a bad idea. I do have some 12 gauge aluminum sheet. The enclosure is not connected to the house, by the way. I like everything modular. I made it so I can move it if I ever find the need. I have enough cable and if I ever got real ambitious, I've thought about putting it in my...

Trying a new idea for the exhaust on my 802a

I have 5. One in the basement and 2 on each floor. All hardwired together. Can't be too careful.

Trying a new idea for the exhaust on my 802a

Someone mentioned my lack of an exhaust system on my last post. It was a valid point. Carbon monoxide is nothing to joke about. I had plumbed an 1 1/4 black iron pipe from the generator, out the side of my enclosure. I removed the pipe when I took off the covers for my testing. I did not have a...

    MEP-803A —— Did I Score? I think so……

Yes, thanks. I just welded two of them on my wife's car.

    MEP-803A —— Did I Score? I think so……

Thanks Ray. I did not have a flex coupling which is why I want to do some type of venturi exhaust. That way I can have a short piece of pipe extend vertically into the larger pipe without touching it. I will suspend the larger, sheet metal pipe from the roof of the enclosure with a 90 degree...

    MEP-803A —— Did I Score? I think so……

I figured someone would pick up on that. ;) Thanks for the observation. I have a black iron exhaust that carries it up and out the gap on the right side of the enclosure. I removed it because I removed all the top covers. I wasn't happy with my exhaust and I am thinking that I may try to fab up...

This is what I did for mine. (It looks crooked but trust me, it's not. )

MEP-804A Low Voltage - Voltage Regulator Question

Ron, aren't these guys the best? Reading your thread, it looks like everyone involved are old farts. Even you and me. Think of the years experience being tapped. Glad you found the issue. Looks repairable to me if you either can't find a replacement or have a stroke from the price. All you need...
