Interesting. When I simulated an M 1088 suspension, it recommended just 2 Fox-like shocks at the front to stop the porpoising. Since custom shocks are very pricey, this is a good thing. Actually you can't even get the Foxes now. It also stated that the M1088's short wheelbase is a big...
For the M1088 FMTV (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles), the speed that yields the best diesel mileage is generally between 45 and 50 MPH, with 55 MPH being the absolute upper limit for efficiency.
While driving 45 MPH on a highway is often impractical, the data below explains why this specific...
discuss the reliability of the cat 3116 versus the caterpillar C7
When discussing the reliability of the Caterpillar 3116 versus the Caterpillar C7, you are comparing two different eras of diesel technology: the mechanical, pre-emissions era (3116) and the electronic, emissions-regulated...
The Goodyear MV/T (Military Vehicle/Tactical), particularly in common sizes like 395/85R20, is a massive tire designed for load-bearing and off-road traction, not speed.1 A 56 mph rating (Speed Symbol "G" - 90 km/h) indicates the tire is engineered with thick sidewalls and heavy tread blocks...
From a physics and mechanical standpoint, the rollover risk of a 6x6 (like the M1083) compared to a 4x4 (like the M1078) is often misunderstood.
While a 6x6 offers superior longitudinal stability (climbing hills/pitch), it generally offers no advantage in lateral rollover stability and can...
If you need to remove that large JIC 90 elbow /O ring boss from the pump, be careful not to mar the JIC threads with a big wrench in a tight area. The pipe fitting is stainless and the elbow is steel, so a marred thread can easily lead to failure. The elbow part is of course pricey military, but...
Cracked the reservoir : ( Putting that power steering pump on and moving it around cracked it. It was old anyway.
Do we have a part # for this?. Did not see one in the list. I do see similar looking ones on Ebay.
Can the fuel primer pump from a C7 be used for a 3116 with the appropriate adapters to the fuel lines?

Anyone notice the power steering filter replacements lacks a piece/holding fixture ( that black plastic thing on the end of the filter)? Think that black plastic piece is important?
I'm in the process of finally installing A/C in my M1088. Just curious about the history of A/C in FMTV's. I know that the original units were rare, but which vehicles got them? Just the HIMARS? Do newer FMTV's get these units as standard now, given the armor?
I have been looking through the...
Hi Folks,
I have a GEN 2 FMTV A/C and am finally getting around to put it in. Looks like sources have dried up for these wiring harnesses. Anyone have one or know a current source? Thanks!
When I see a Jeep on the road lately I have often wonderd how they drive these days, given so many changes to designs and numerous owners. Well the A/C went out on my Audi company car and I needed a quick replacement. Only vehicle available that fit was a new Jeep Sahara Hybrid. I reluctantly...
Looking for a thread on fixing a noisy cab latch / air suspension. Tried to search for it.
Clunk rub clunk rub rub rub...... Yeah
Latch has been rebuilt.
Thank you
I have the standard O ring kit from CAT. Must be the Military pump thing. Anyone know the gasket number for these two fittings, where they meet the body of the pump? They are appear to be more of a plastic than a rubber gasket.
