Marinating clutch packs.
Output sub assemblies are just about complete, I installed a sonnax hp-4l80e-01 upgrade kit, heres hoping it works as intended.
Forward clutch pack assembly, I didnt have the special tool to compress the spring plate so I used a number of clamps (as above) and the...
That's great to use as a comparison, I had a look at the 2 output planetary assemblies and they were staked the same way as your pictures, though I only had 4 gears on each. All were in good condition minus more clutch material from the torque converter which had to be cleaned out.
Below is...
Thanks! That's a great resource to add.
I have been using:
- Technical manual stuff https://www.hummerpartsguy.com/TRANSMISSION-4L80E_c_2823.html
- The ATSG 4l80e manual and the GM 4L Transmissions: How to Rebuild and Modify books...
Note: The Valve body surfaces are very sharp! Ouch.
Continuing with the disassembly, it seems I never purchased a set of 12 point sockets so I'll be doing the 4rth hub tomorrow.
clutches and steels were in decent condition, did not see any obvious damage aside from the friction material...
Sorry for the lack of updates, been a busy start to the year so this project has been put on the backburner for a while.
I decided to move the transmission inside as I didn't have enough space in the garage to really spread this thing out and I couldn't keep the environment clean enough.
So...
Oh good news the tags are indeed there, they were caked in dirt so I couldn't see them.
Separated the Tcase from the trans today, Tcase wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be.
Oops tore a gasket.
When I try to spin the input shaft in neutral something inside is making a squeaking sound...
No tags on the transmission, and yes that is blue paint.
It did indeed have to be removed, there's not enough space to back the transmission and the transfer case off together when it is on.
However there was just enough space to wiggle the cover off if you turn it vertical towards the...
A day of good weather and I'm back at it. Took the whole day and a heap of effort but its down and out.
Note to others, do not try to remove the transmission and transfer case at the same time it's way too wobbly and pretty sketchy.
A lot of weight if you're only using an adapter plate for a...
Unfortunately I wasn't able to find any shops willing to take on this project as it seems all the big shops up here are fully booked for the next 6 months.
So instead of waiting around or having it sit in a parking lot for the next year or more I've decided to take on the challenge.
Will be...
New TCM plugged in, went for a quick test drive.
Truck drives normally in forward and reverse, no shudder but very poor acceleration and blows a lot of unburnt diesel out when trying to accelerate from a stop going uphill. Definitely did not observe any shifting through 1-2-3 occurring on the...
Last time I tried, it moved without any shudder relatively quickly on a flat but up hill it would make a huge cloud of smoke before getting up to speed as I'm pretty sure it was stuck in 3rd.
Edit: I also remember it was inconsistent, every other start/stop and I would notice some shudder when...
TCM swap in still in progress.
Something I forgot to do earlier was check the idle speed from focusing on the transmission for so long.
It was at 500 in neutral/park, when put into gear it would drop below to 400-300 and the engine would quit.
Increasing the idle speed to 700-725 seems to...
Yes, I got a brand new wiring harness kit along with all 4 solenoids and the 2 speed sensors. Still hoping its not the TC itself.
After researching, pulling all 350lbs of the torque converter+transmission+transfer case out and in again may not be something I can do in the driveway.
From driving it around for the past 3 years I know the TC should only lock up on 4th D(O). I think worst case the TC is burnt. Yet from the one day where I swapped the internal Trans electronics everything seemed to work fine for a short while so it doesnt seem to be the TC specifically.
I do...
Hi, first time poster long time lurker.
I've been sifting through many threads and the Gear-report 4l80e troubleshooting guide on this particular problem but I've not found a solution yet so I'm posting this SOS before I resort to pulling the entire transmission out.
My Hmmwv is a 2003 M1123...
