Hello everyone new to the group. I am looking to buy my first truck and during a test drive on a snowing day I noticed the rear axle was not pulling. Only the front rear axle pulls. The rear drive shafts are turning but its not transferring the power to the rear axle wheels. Any ideas on what may be the issue or what i can check? truck has 17,000 miles on it. Thank you

First, check if the interaxle drive shaft is present. Removing it is the easiest way to turn the rearmost axle to a tag type

Jack up one side of both rear axles, and see if they rotate freely together. If not, there may be some damage in the rear gearings.

And take a look to see if there is a lockout hub installed. some people put one single lockout on one of the rear hubs. Also, I have seen the axle shafts completely pulled and a cover cap installed. That would be an easy fix.
