Hi everyone,

I’ve been told by a fellow Deuce owner that it’s better to change the Dot 5 brake fluid to DOT4 as it’s safer, better all round and a lot cheaper,

can anyone confirm this?

thanks

Karl

You don't need to change the brake fluid. Just need to maintain whatever type of fluid (DOT3, DOT4, or DOT5 - Pick one and stick to it).

Properly, systems running DOT 5 fluids should have a bottom drain on the calipers. Without it, water can't be purged. Trucks like the CUCV have chrome plated caliper bores. Without that, seized pistons would be common. DOT 3/4/5.1 fluids a miscible with water which enables it to be flushed out through top vents. If you've got the $$$ there are silicone oils with higher specific gravity than water that would also allow water to be flushed out the vents.
