H83 Heater Fuel Filter

Hello. I recently purchased an H83 diesel heater and got it running. During my troubleshooting I opened up the fuel filter and cleaned things up a bit. My only question is if there is supposed to be a traditional disposable fuel filter within the assembly. Per the IPC TM, it does not mention any disposable filter, only the whole assembly. The maintenance manual TM doesn’t really call out a specific filter either, but it sort of indicates there is supposed tobhen I open up the filter bowl there’s just a small copper colored cylinder descending from the head of the unit, about 0.5x1in.

Has anyone encountered this, know of a P/N, or if there’s even supposed to be a disposable filter?

This is an interesting question. I hope you downloaded your TM's from the Heater TM forum here in SS. The parts manual has the latest change, and that's a good thing. But your problem is that the parts TM is not showing the filter for the filter housing. And yes, the filter is changeable. Pull out the copper cylinder. That's probably the filter. Clean it. use something that will eat off the fuel lacquer. Soak it a while. Put it back in. Look at the filter to see if there is a part number on it. Maybe even post a picture here. I will ask someone if he knows why the filter was omitted from the parts TM.

This is normaly not something that gets replaced, but just cleaned. Still, it should be in the TM. But its not.

i have not seen a replaceable filter in any of the ones i worked on, only the brass stacked washers. I have also found the gaskets have been a weak point and suck air, and the other weak point is the valve for inboard fuel or external fuel sucking air. I also replaced almost every oem filter with a spin on filter and filter head.

That's what I would have thought. This is the same kinda filter the was used in countless generators, just smaller. That's why I wrote to clean it and stick it back in.

I appreciate yall helping me clear this up. Yes that figure looks to be more accurate to what’s installed. I’ll probably just end up replacing the assembly with an aftermarket filter unit as well. But until then, my filter seems to be in good shape

Tried running it last night after awhile and now it’s suddenly running super rich, not putting out any heat, and flagging the alarm. Fuel pressures climb to 90 when heat is demanded and decend to 20 as it should. Maybe it’s a dirty nozzle or something, going to tear into the burner assembly tonight.

Where did you get this figure? I’m sort of new to this forum. I downloaded all my TMs from a thread on this forum that contained all TMs for various heaters and air conditioners.
