How to calculate tread percentage on 9x20 ndt's

Here a few examples, of remaining tread (depth) expressed in %:

• 1/2" = 84%
• 3/8" = 63%
• 1/4" = 42%
• 1/8" = 21%

It seems like about 20/32" would be what a new tires tread depth would be.
