M809 alternator

I have a 71 m809 and I daily the heck out of it. I've turned wrenches my whole life. Recently I've had a interment charging issue. Couple days ago I narrowed it down to the alternator. Every morning after starting it if I unhook the positive wire on the alternator and tap it to the terminal a couple times it will spark and then I hook it back up it will charge all day. Last night headed 2 hours away to tow a buddy out of ditch the terminal on the alternator melted and blew out the back of the alternator showering another buddy behind me in sparks! Tht alternator is now beyond repair! I took the one off my parts truck but it's not charging! I've been searching for a rebuild kit but can't seem to find one. Does anyone know where to get one. Really don't want to pay for a rebuilt one when I can do it myself if I could source the parts. Thanks

Southern Automotive Wholesalers is one source. Look into Delco alternator conversion before you repair your mil alternator.

I suspect the solid state voltage regulator on the back of the alt did not take kindly to the spark test. If not bad already, it probably released the magic smoke.
