Hello, I am new to owning my 1984 AM General, M932A (converted with a dump body) and trying to work through several issues with the truck. I use it as a dirt mover and I would like to tow my tag trailer with it. The Big problem I’m sorting out is it takes forever to build air pressure in both the primary and secondary tanks and when I get pressure, it’s never above 70-80psi. I checked air pressure from the compressor and I’m getting strong pressure. I replaced the dryer (it was disconnected completely) and replaced the air governor. Pressure builds up more quickly but I need at least 90psi to get the trailer to release the brakes. QUESTION: What else would cause low pressure? A protection switch or valve??
Next issue I found is that the Trailer Protection Valve is not even hooked up. The two bottom ports are connected but the two top ports ( a blue and red line) are dangling in space. I traced the Trailer Air Supply Valve, line in to one of the ports on the TPV. The other bottom port goes into a Double Checkvalve on the left frame rail near the transfer case but I couldn’t figure out the rest today. No wonder the push valve in the cab doesn’t stay depressed. The emergency side, gladhand is plumbed directly from the Wet tank but shouldn’t that be hooked up via the TPV? I’m a little confused about this. And I don’t even know if the column mounted trailer brake lever even Works.
Thank you in advance for any knowledge you can share.
