It has been a while since I have posted a new thread. Working on my 802 and had the fuel cap go from looking normal for the age to a rusted mess on the inside between maintenance runs. The debris screen was waxed over to the point that fuel would not pass. I have cleaned the debris screen and tube of the rust and wax build up. My true question. Has anyone taken the fuel cap apart to the component level. I see there is narrow crimps around the outside lip that holds the outside with the tabs and the inside that holds everything else. Looks to be a center rivet that the vent wings pivots around. I have three of these and they all need to be rebuilt.
Thanks in advance

Mine was rusted pretty good also.
Dropped cap in the Evapo-Rust for a few days.
Rust gone and when cleaned and rinsed, was as good as new.

Bought NOS cap gasket off eBay and she’s brand new again.

Didn’t have to take it apart
If the rust remover didn’t work, I would have just bought a new one.

Before treatment and new gasket

After treatment and before paint.
I didn’t take a pic of the underside, but it looks great.
EDIT: Pic taken and added to post.

Looks like a little bit of rust trying to make a comeback.
I cleaned cap and sprayed fluid film on underside after this pic was taken.
