I know that model engine (2 cyl, 42ci) was used on the MEP-017 5kW gasoline generator set and maybe others. Under the TM (technical manual) section for Generators you can find your specific model TM’s. These sets are loud and thirsty but will work for emergency backup power. Eastern Surplus has lots of parts for those engines, good luck.

I just picked up a 2a042 (This is the type engine model.) generator cheap. It has no oil pressure. How do you get to the oil pump and is it hard to change?

The likelihood of the oil pump being bad, is VERY low. How are you reading Oil Pressure? From the gauge on the set? Or have you hooked up an external oil pressure gauge. And yes, please download the TM's.

I disconnect the oil line going to the oil filter. Turned over the motor with a drill and nothing come out of two hoses. I have a TM coming Friday, I just was wondering if I’m wasting my time or worth fixing (only payed 150$ fo this unit)

The engine TM's, see below. read -14. I find it hard to believe a drill is going to build up enough oil pressure. And again, where are you taking your oil pressure readings from? A hose? Not the best place to do that. Is this engine hooked to a generator? There and several different applications that use this engine.

I just had the hoses off going to the oil filter. I pulled the plugs so the engine spins pretty quick. Where would you suggest hooking up the gauge? This is a 5kw generator.

You could use the ports of both the Oil Pressure Switch or the Sending unit. I would spin it over with two 12 volt batteries in series, (24 VDC). And its is possible to start this engine with a pull rope. If its not a wreck or has missing parts, I would do it that way. The -14 tells you how to do it. If you try to do that, take the engine cover off. Look at the carburetor. On top, in the middle is a brass screw. Take it out. Its about 1.5-2 inches long. Dribble fuel into the hole. Maybe an OZ or two. Put the screw back in. You have just filled up the carburetor with fuel and do not have to "prime" the carburetor by pulling on the rope as much. Works even better if you use to batteries to start in normally.
