Did a lot of bearing and brake work on my trucks last summer. . As I put each truck back in service ( and after burning my hand on one of the brake drums ), I used an infrared thermometer to check the brake drum and hub temperatures after driving.

I found a couple of minor issues that needed attention (adjustment) and kept tracking temps until I was sure everything was running okay. . Now I just check temps periodically to make sure a problem isn't developing. . In most cases, the earlier a problem is identified, the easier (and cheaper) it is to correct.
I made up a form to track temps and tire pressure information so I could keep a running record in my maintenance books.
