That thread for the most part is closed , it just hasn't been done yet by a moderator , bikeman is on vacation and doesn't have access right now . There may be a new thread towards the end of the this month. Read post #243.
The reason i say it was the combined weight as bridge plate read c08 as well as c8 in a circle on pass doorC8 is the truck admin number. The combined weight rating is displayed on the front of the truck, using a special mounting plate and replaceable numbers.
Nope, the C-8 is C company vehicle number 8. It's just coincidence that it's the same as the standard bridgeweight of the M35 series of trucks. The reason i say it was the combined weight as bridge plate read c08 as well as c8 in a circle on pass door
You are absolutely right, this is a Michigan unit. However you won't see a 46th Infantry Brigade on anything except the Brigade HQ trucks. For most units, on the left side, you'll see the division numbers and the battalion numbers. For seperate brigades, you'll see the Brigade number on top and the battalion numbers on bottom. For the divisional units, you won't see the the division with the brigade because then there would be no room for the battalion. At any rate, at one point, brigades were swapping battalions around anyway, inside of the division. As far as why the numbers are so close "146 FSB" in the "46th Infantry Brigade" is because many of the national guard units just added a "1" or a "2" in many of their generic support battalions and sometimes artillery too. Otherwise you could end up with a 46 Signal Bn, 46th FSB and 46 FA and so on.I believe there was a 46th Infantry Brigade of the MI ARNG under the 38th ID of the IN ARNG. 46th Infantry BDE had a 146th Forward Support Battalion. Under 146th FSB was C Company. C Company was the FSBs medical company.
However, those bumper numbers don’t reflect that. Next to the 38I should be 46BDE, not 146. But units often come up with unique markings that might not quite make sense. I couldn’t find any reference to another 146th Brigade or any 146th numbered echelon that might have a FSB within its task organization. There was a MIARNG 146th Multifunctional Medical Battalion, but I couldn’t find any reference to the 146th MMB being tasked in any way to 38 ID. Plus a MMB would not have a FSB within their task org.
