What's a good 395/85/20 tire price these days?

Just purchased a bobbed M35a2 with very rotten 395s. There's a person near me on marketplace selling a set on the original duce wheels for $500 but they are coming off some kind of rock crawler, so not sure of their condition. Another guy is selling what he claims to be 1 year old XZLs for $800 each. My neighbor runs his own trucking business, so I may just see what it would cost to have him pick up a set from Pennsylvania if I win an auction on Gov Planet, but they all seem to be sets of 6 and I'm not sure if I can expect to get them any cheaper at auction.
Am I being unreasonable to think that I can pick up a "good" used set of 4, 395/85/20 tires for less than $1,000?

I've been looking at Ebay auctions and some of them come with tires and wheels, but I'm not sure if the wheels will be compatible with whatever adapters I currently have. Can anyone help me figure out what I have vs what is in this auction? (the set of 4 is the auction photo)

You have some home brew or shop made "recentered" rims is what it looks like. The other photo is 395/85r20 MV/T tires on FMTV rims. Pretty standard for surplus tires.

Pricing varies highly on location, availability, and budget. $250-$350 tire isn't bad (imho) but check for cracking and the typical issues before buying. I don't see an issue swapping tires over to your existing rims.

So do mine not look like mrap wheels with a bolt on adapter plate? I may need to pull one off to see what I have going on back there.

Also, what's a good rule of thumb for tire age on a 395 Goodyear? If they are totally unused, with no visible issues but dated at 15 years old, should I steer clear for highway use?

Hard to say what they once were but the stud count on your current rims are 16 vs 20 on those other rims.

For tires everyone has an opinion and some states have law, definitely for commercial us, on age of tires. I don't see an issue with an older tire as long as it's been out of the sun, rain, and off the ground. You have to make an executive choice of what you're comfortable with vs cost.
