Started the replacement process of the crumbling connectors with Deutsch connectors and wondering if the two wires’ orientation matter? Going up to the truck ABS controller the wires are black & brown and the sensor side wires are white & white.

Possibly, yes..... possibly no. The sensor wave form will be shifted. It's a Variable Reluctance sensor and changing the polarity will determine if it goes positive or negative first - most modules are looking for the rising edge to pass some threshold voltage when the tooth passes the coil and if you reverse the polarity the signal will go negative first then positive. Most modules want the trigger to go positive on the first half cycle.

Will this matter to the ABS computer that isn't interested in the exact timing of the teeth on one wheel as it relates to the other wheels? Possibly yes. Possibly no.

To avoid weird issues I would carefully maintain the existing polarity just to be safe given the ABS is a safety system and we wouldn't want to confuse it.
