M101 or M105 Suitability for service body

I have been pondering the use of a service body mounted on a trailer frame and then noticed both a 105 and a 101 available not to far away.

I my rig is a 2003 F250 ScSb 4x4. So pulling the 105 trailer wouldn't be a problem. That said, I wondered if since the 101's are so overbuilt that one might suffice to mount an aluminum service body on it. I guessing a short low profile Al service body to be in the 5-6 hundred lb range, but would dump the military running gear/wheels to lightencas much as possible. My total payload should be around 1500lb.

Does the 101 seem like a better foundation for this project than a 105?

Welcome to Steel Soldiers

Both will work for your needs.

The 105 is a big heavy trailer, even behind a large 3/4 ton truck.
Unless it's a 105A3 (with hydraulic surge brakes), you will have to rig up something for brakes.
Some guys have swapped out axles and added electric brakes, but that adds a ton of work and lots of expense.
Plus the spare tire you'll have to carry
Prices are usually lower since they are large and heavy and not very practical to use for most people.
The hitch height is also much higher, requiring creative ways to level out the trailer ride angle.

The 101 is a better fit, in my opinion.
If your talking about the A2/A3 versions, you will have hydraulic brakes already.
They work very well when properly maintained.
It will handle the weight that your planning on without issue.
Tires are easy to find and towing around is much easier as it will not stick out beyond the track of your truck.
Prices are usually higher since they are a normal size trailer and extremely versatile and able to be towed with a 1/2 ton truck or Jeep (Jeep folks LOVE these trailers).

We love pictures, so whatever you choose, post a pic!
