I also don't like the high pitched sound on my son's M51. It is ear piercing load though! Didn't know about the adjustment. Will have to look into that.
A 23000lb vehicle shouldn't sound like a little foreign car!
Preacherboy,
If the weather didn't keep folks from showing up, let's see some pics!
My son and I went to another show down in Utica, Mi. It was advertised to be from 9-3. Yours was originally listed as 11-1. Couldn't justify the drive from Port Huron for a 2 hour show.
We went to Utica in...
Ripcord,
You have to be kidding. Apparently you have not seen ugly! See my son's M101 here.

Maybe it is not as bad as yours. After all, his does have pin striping (well some of it is still there).
Amen!!!!
Whoops, I think that reply just brought my post count to 22. Maybe it's not as difficult as I thought.
I guess I can't ask any questions about 'possems either since it looks like that subject has been well covered! Oh well, search function here I come :-P
OOPS should be "possums"
Raven,
I really have to agree with you on the challenge of attaining the 100 posts! I was lurking for a while, then joined a little over a month ago. My 17 year old son just bought an MV (I am his financial backer :) ). It took him a few months to work out the deal with the selling...
Nick,
I don't see any evidence on our trailer of the brake handle brackets like I see in your pics.
Old Fart,
I don't see any evidence of a rear landing gear bracket on the rear frame cross member like I see in Nick's pics
I will take a close look the next chance I get to see if I can see if...
I believe you are correct about attaining 36mph in low range. I was just looking at the manual the other night. The chart in it shows the top speeds in each gear in each range. As I recall high range speeds were about double what low range speeds were and 26 or 28mph seems like what it showed...
My son just bought a 1962 M51. It has the Continental R6602 gasser in it. The manual says it will do 57 max (going by memory, don't have it in front of me). 36 sounds like about the top speed in 5th gear LOW range. Is he sure he was in HIGH range?
I think the multifuel and diesel were...
My 17 year old son just bought a 1962 M51 5 ton dump with winch. The 5 ton rating is for hauling payload off road. On road payload rating is 10 tons. The truck weighs 23000 by itself. Max gross tow load is 30000 so it would not be able to pull the 45000 you are looking for. I believe the...
Warthog, I was typing while your were posting :D
No specific person has to keep the calendar up to date. If you know of an event or are putting on an event, add it to the calendar yourself. There is an "add event" tab above and to the right of the calendar. Simple as that! :D
WOW! Gimpy, thanks for pointing that out. That is not obvious at all. I see to change to the event calendar, one has to scroll down to the bottom of the calendar page and click on the little pull down menu.
I did that and the event calendar comes up. I looked at June, July, August and...
Thanks, I never noticed it before! Actually I never paid much attention to ANYTHING on the RH side since the first thing I see is just advertisements.
OK, let me revise my request then. Can a "Calendar" tab be added to the top "menu bar"? That would make it much more obvious and more in line...
As an MV newbie, I would like to see a calendar where SS members can show their MV events, shows, rallys, etc. Many forums and organization websites have that and is is most helpful.
I see there is an "upcoming events" forum, but that is cumbersome to weed through and when folks post "after"...
As promised in another thread, here are some pics of my son's M101 that was included with the purchase of his M51 5 ton dump truck. It appears all the tags have been removed. As you can see it is pretty rough. It had been used to haul gravel and was left outside. The steel floor is like...
L999.
Thanks for the welcome!
Doghead took care of me and got me on!
I see you are in South Bend. I have family there and actually just returned from there 2 weeks ago, just as people were coming into town for a big Notre Dame game. We got out just in time!
OK, and thanks for being kind in your replies.
When I saw this topic, I immediately looked through the TM and I did not see the dump feature mentioned (as doghead pointed out). That bothered me because I know I just saw this a couple of weeks ago. Then I thought maybe a youtube vid, but no...
HA, HA, that could be. After all, who wouldn't want to be from Port Huron area!!
Actually I live just outside of Port Huron near a little town that does not even have a traffic light! Post office, bar, general store, satellite fire station (not manned) and a few houses is all that is...
Newbie here, but why do you say they are not designed to dump? The latch bolts, pivot points, hand brakes, etc look like they are there specifically for that reason!
Also, there is a video right on GL that was specifically made to show how to properly use the feature!
M101 dump procedure
THANK YOU DOGHEAD!!!!
And thanks for the welcome guys!!!
I don't actually have an MV yet, I just played the part as my 17 year old son's (Crazyman) financial backer so he could purchase a 1962 M51 gasser 5 ton dump w/w, hardtop and heater. He also got a M101 trailer (no tags on it) complete...
