After the alignment I had her out on the road. On a flat road she felt amazing. Before I noticed I was “buried speedometer” MPH and lots of RPM. She had more power to go BUT I’m not dangerous and I’m not gonna push her like that.
I immediately slowed down.
Uphill is a chore. Uphill while...
Wanted better ventilation in the older style steel top roof M1165
Purchased an Ama$on sliding rear window and snuck it into the Aluminum patch used to cover the factory Hummer H1 rear window. Fits just barely inside the factory window space. Needed to cut the rear lock-down ring to create 4...
Well, someone needed an alignment!
Planning to offroad again. Vehicle had horrible oversteering in turns on highway. Felt dangerous. Now after alignment feels more appropriate and ready for th highway and for the trail. Uses 1998 alignment specs.
Love your work.
This is what I did.
I had size constraints based upon old style M1165 inner flange for stock window.
Stock window kit probably $700. Ama$on kit as installed, $100.
I love the look! Almost a M1165!
Put some tie downs on the top for long trips and offroad. You will thank me later.
I’m using an Ama$on rear sliding window for my rear windshield. Gonna cut it into place tomorrow. I mention that because you might want to consider the same… On hot days it...
Coug,
When I’m offroad I’m rarely in cellphone service areas. My $66 Walmart 24Fs do just fine.
I never travel alone offroad. If I need I can boost NATO to NATO.
Batteries fail. That’s the name of the game. Change them every 4 years and you will be fine.
IMHO
Use 12V starter and wire to the rear battery for only 12 Volts.
Wire in a 24V activated 12V instant on continuous solenoid to actuate the starter solenoid.
I used a regular 4-speed HMMWV specific dual shifter for tranny and x-fee case.
I can’t remember any more info re.: I might have needed something b/t shift and tranny. Seem to recall there was something we put there. Did this a long time ago.
Don’t buy anything until you inspect your rig.
Gear reduction starter is cheap and you can (and must) adapt the vehicle to only supply 12v to it.
If you go stock 24V starter, prepare to spend $1000 for a new one. If you purchase used, prepare to open and inspect and clean it out. Ensure the...
Just a standard lid. Bring the top with you to the store.
Temporarily just cut a sheet of pliable silicone sheet 1/16” thick to get you where you’re going.
Our starters are unique. In order to do deep water fording they are sealed. That creates a problem where particulate matter builds up from the spinning of the starter and the degradation of the brushes.
The best thing to do is open up the starter and clean it and replace the brushes. During...
