Back in the late80’s-90’s there was also not the availability of 24-12 converters that we have today either. This makes the conversion to a 24v alt relatively easy… at that time the dual voltage alt got chosen as the path to follow, and it is the path .MIL chose to stay on. But it is not necessarily the path to stay on anymore for us “civvies” with so many other options, particularly given the limited single source of supply and lack of repairability for the Neihoff dual voltage alts…

we have tons of dual voltage led’s and power converters, one place we are a little lacking are instruments/gauges. Yes there are 24V gauges available, but at greater cost and not nearly the variety/selection available in the 12v market…
