My first post on this forum so thanks for letting me in.
I'm active on a few other forums and I'm using the same handle.
I recently picked up this American Merc diesel engine without the generator end and I'm going through it. Well not really going through it just trying to see what I need to get it to go.
And like everybody else I came here to see if I can get any extra info I hear a lot of people couldn't find parts for these so they trashed them they won't happen here.
Anyways here's a link to a bunch of pictures if you see anything you want to comment on please comment.
Thanks for letting me in Chris

.
Welcome to the Outfit!

Do you think you might be able to "translate" this request into a MEP number?
That way maybe we can help you find a TM for the power plant...

This is so old, it has no MEP number. But maybe a model number. On the side of the engine, under where it is written "American Marc" is written something else. What is it?

Thanks Guys I did change the Title.
I can't believe the #2 serial number either. Pretty Cool.
So the Main Questions I have are What might the Battery Voltage Be and What direction does she Spin, hahah and Where to get a starter motor because I ain't hand cranking this thing to start it. I have enough Pains in my Body.
The fuel Pump says the Voltage and Model number are stamped on the mounts so I took Pics of them , but cant decipher the lingo.
Anything else you see or have questions about please chime in.

Also It has an Ether injection Pump I have never seen anything like that with a diesel.
And I don't think the fuel Pump is Original.
I'm going to power the fuel pump separately with my DC power supply and see if it work and at what voltage I'll also do the same with the coil in the air intake.

This is likely to take a considerable amount of time and money to restore. I know these engines have a following, but why invest the time and money?

I like your answer! I too have restored things like that where others didn't understand why. Go for it!

I'm not bothered by what others think
Even though sometimes it's entertaining.
I'm just looking for any info that might be floating around over here.
If you don't ask you'll never know .
I have a 1928 Husqvarna that I've been trying to find stuff on I've been plastering it all over the internet.
Last night I got a message from a guy in Sweden who has the same bike and he's got some documentation paperwork so I'm pretty stoked about that.
And I made a new friend 😊

Yeah I like the old Kohlers
I've got a 5KW Head that I might put on the back of this 1800 RPMs so that's always an option
Plus I got three more up in storage in various states of disrepair

@BentTrigger Isn't the engine a "Marc", not "Merc"?

It looks like quite the project. That starter looks like it was flooded for quite some time at some point.

All the best, 2PbFeet

Let me load videos
The pump and the solenoid work with 24dcv
So thats good.
Next to check the what I think is a fuel heater
In the fuel line. Also the glow plug.
If it all works then i can finish cleaning the fuel system and change the oil. And the rotation is clockwise from the handcrank end.
Then rework the wiring and see if it will fire with the hand crank. Hope the injectors not damaged.

That starter motor came with the lister and has been sitting in storage for yrs. I am trying to find a new one and since that mount is sae#1 I have to look thru the manuals and find a suitable replacement . But testing the components leads me to a 24vdc starter so that is good. Moving forward!

Heres the manual for the Husqvarna pictured. I removed it. until I find a better way to Link it. I'm not very computer savey.
Still looking for same for the American Marc.
But shows what being patient can do.
Not Exactly for my bike but pretty close.
I am forever Grateful to Bjoer who found me on another Forum this morning.
This is probably as close as i will ever be to an original for this bike. WOW!!
And you my new friends are witness.
Sorry for taking Liberty with You Site.
