What is that line across the crank journal, is it cracked or is there a smashed later of bearing material still stuck to the journal?
Looks like a crack in the picture but I'd imagine you would have mentioned if it was.

Got the crank out. Talked to a friend. I'll be sending this thing to be ground and with any luck we can find some bearings. If not it'll be poured in Babbitt and that will be the end of it's hard work, show only after that. Sad
Can't you go to a company that makes custom bearings for obsolete engines for a new bearing? I know there are companies out there that do this service, but I don't know how much they charge. I believe one is Auburn Bearing & Manufacturing, but I don't have any experience with them.

Thanks for showing the photo. Here is a photo of both of my M151A2s, one that is prior TOW Launcher and standard A2 now, sans the ROPS, now for sale, and my 2nd M151A2 which has the fording kit installed and never had a ROPS installed.

I found the problem.
Someone put shell bearings in but did not put a hole for the oil squirter to get to the crankshaft.
The Squirter pushes high pressure lube shooting to the rod in line with the hole thru the rod (AND BREARING SHELL!!!) to keep the Journal Flooded. No Hole in the Shell  Houston we have a rod knock!!

No use in wasting a diesel sipper!!:p

Very interesting, so rather than pushing oil through a passage inside the crank, like an automotive engine ( I assume because you have tapered roller main bearings) that small tube sprays oil at the side of the connecting rod and oil is supposed to run down through the hole in the rod and into the connecting rod bearing ( assuming of course the prior "mechanic" had used bearings with holes in the top half)
If finding a bearing that will fit once the crank is turned down ends up being a problem, I be a good machinist could determine the right size to turn the crank and possibly open up the rod end and fit it with a needle bearing, like most 2 stroke engines use?
I'm betting you will be able to find an appropriate split sleeve bearing, since most machine shops have sources to buy them by by dimension rather than application.

Ray, that's a good insight
If they can't fix it or get me close and you bet your butt I'll send this to you for a needle bearing would a needle bearing hold up to the loads also, how would you put a needle bearing on a split rod?
