Bumper Numbers on my M35A2

Can anyone help me decode this please.
29-116-I D-16

29 bn 116 infantry delta company 16th in order of march

It is actually the 29th Infantry Division and the 116th Infantry Regiment is part of the Virginia National Guard. They would be either the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Battalion of the 116th. It's a unit with an exceptional lineage and I'm proud to say I was a member of it a long time ago. D is Delta Company. Contrary to a lot of belief, the number after that is not the order of march. D Company doesn't even have 18 vehicles because it is a light unit (or it was when they had M35A2 trucks). It's purely an administrative number. At battalion level it normally corresponds to the staff section number....S1 personnel, S2 intell, S3 operations and so on. There is a lengthy older thread I did up on all this..so search is your friend.

Hi Carnac,

I have my Deuce marked up 29-115-I R16 in honour of the 29th recon unit that left Cornwall for D-day 80 years ago, the very fort they left prior to embarkation is the very fort I used to go airsofting in,

I don’t suppose you’d know which 29th units served in Iraq around 2006 - 2008, it’s the unit we are trying to portray at our events, I’ve tried contacting the 29th ID but have had no luck

The 1/116th was in Kosovo in 2006-7. A few months later, they were mobilized for hurricane relief. They didn’t go to Iraq until 2009-10.

back in my day it would have been.

drivers side front bumper would have the company and administrative number. R doesn’t seem right. They wouldhave companies A, B, and C plus the Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC).


Rear bumperette drivers side 29ID over top of 3-116IN. The on the passenger side company and administrative number.


they also used to have VAARNG in front of the 29ID and moved the battalion to the passenger side. I did a post about how screwed up bumper numbers could get, especially when done by some private stencilling it as disciplinary duty.

Sorry for the very late reply, my emails are acting up as well as my
Notifications sadly,

I appreciate all of your info, I just want to make sure I get it right as I do not want to do any injustice to those who served,

I have been asking around websites, groups and even reached out to the 29th themselves to absolutely no avail,
So this leaves me in a predicament, do I do a ‘modernised’ display showing the difference between a WW2 setup and the modern equivalent or change units to one I can properly research and know they had M35’s in service…..
