CUCV glow plug question

There are 80k miles on my CUCV. Do glow plugs fail, one at a time, until the truck wont start? I have replaced the relay, and ordered the Wellman 070 replacements.

If you still have the 24V to 12V resistor connected (it's behind the air cleaner, on the firewall), as one fails, the others will slowly fail. There's is a huge sticky on the GP theory of operation within the CUCV forum of this site. It's great reading!!

Just out of curiosity, would it be different on a 12v system and why...

Without the resister they are all fed 12 volt. If one fails the rest still get 12 v and so on till the last one dies. Still 12 volt. The resister changes that.

Does anybody know of a good cucv mechanic in southern California??? I need to swap out my glow plugs and check on glow plug controller....

Follow the troubleshooting guide in the TMs. It is a very simple process. Take a look at the many threads here about glow plugs. You can change them yourself. The only real hangup can be if there are any swollen glow plugs. A minor issue is having to change the female terminals on the glow plug wires to fit the wider male terminals most replacement glow plugs.

This is a job just about anyone can do, and will help you get familiar with your truck!

Find a local driveshaft shop and have it re-tubed. They may be able to straighten it. Should replace the u-joints while it is out.
