Exhaust brake

I ended up using a Blue Ox exhaust brake. I wired up a momentary switch to a 24v air valve that goes to the exhaust brake from the secondary tank. I mounted it where the muffler would normally be, then dumped the exhaust behind the toolbox. You have to make sure to test and adjust the systems back pressure under decelerating load while driving!! I don't remember the PSI right now, but the 8.3cta exhaust valves are only designed for a certain amount of back pressure from an exhaust brake. I hooked up a line pre exhaust brake that ran into the cab with a gauge while I was adjusting the gate valve on the exhaust brake. tank ex brake valve.jpgtank ex brake.jpgtank exh brake 1.jpgtank exhaust.jpg

Hi all,

Wondering if there is anything out there anyone has used for the 923A2 as an auxiliary braking system. Jake brake or something similar. Any help would be appretiated!

Thanks
I used a $20 exhaust brake off Alibaba (dont really reccomend...) and it has worked alright. With my factory valve springs I am scared to go over 20-30psi of backpressure (which is not a whole lot) and it is pretty underwhelming. I bought cummins out of their valve springs a year ago so hopefully they have more in stock by now. Once I get the springs I will probably go 60-70 psi back pressure and compound turbo my rig.

Right on not sure if I will go down that avenue. Not to concerned with budget just with reliability. Getting deep in the woods for logging. No time to break down

It has been a bit, but I believe stock springs on the early C like in the A2 are 30 psi. There is a Cummins set that are 60 psi.

Not going to do much logging since it is dependent on speed on how well your brake works. Under 40mph it won’t do much. If you’re logging in low range you are going to snap your transfer case
