so I read an article in History in Motion magazine by the Military Vehicle Preservation Association about a guy making a third break light for safety when driving on the public roads.

so I decided to make some front turn signal lights from the CJ parking lights I removed to install blackout marker lights. I’m using Home Depot magnets to mount the lights that I will wire to the aftermarket 12 volt turn signal switch.

A great article. Probably the best of its type I've seen in my brief time reading History in Motion.
While the author developed the mod for his WWII Jeep, our M38/M38A1/M170s aren't oven endowed with large brake lights. Though at 4", I believe they are larger and brighter than those on MB/GPWs.

As far as turn signals, the MV expert who restored mine replaced the military blackout parking lights with regular units and fitted a military signal switch attached to the steering column.

Initially, I swapped in a set of standard parking lights into the grille. I've since picked up a set of b/o lights and moved the parking lights. I wanted to keep turn signals up front because I don't trust other drivers to begin with and didn't want to decrease my chances of staying safe in this world of idiotic people.

I ended up making a set of brackets that bolt onto the grille hinges to hold the parking lights. I didn't want them up on top of the fenders nor out on the bumper. Still very visible, so I'm happy.
