I have a 002a Generator I just bought I can get it to start but it won’t stay running unless I manually operate what I think is the governor or the fuel shut off the throttle cable goes to it. Any ideas

I moved your thread to the right forum. So now you will get someone to see it.

Is this gen set new to you?
Have you ever seen it run right?
Have you or someone else worked on it in the last little while? Changed anything, Adjusted anything?
When you turn the S2 (start) switch to the Run position, do you hear the two electric fuel pumps run?
When you turn the S2 to the Start position, the set runs? Or will not run, unless you hold the S2 in the start position?
Are the batteries fully charged?

Balls in your court.

New to me I can make it run, I too the fuel shut off out of it. I can hold it open and control the fuel that way the fuel shut off has continuity according to my ohm meter haven’t checked the voltage yet

Are you saying you have to hold the solenoid that presses down on the throttle lever up and out of the way to keep it running?
If so that indicates that either your oil pressure switch is not working, your over temp switch isn't working or perhaps you have low oil pressure.
OR, if you aren't holding the start switch in the crank position long enough for the oil pressure to build up and close the safety switch.
If you have oil pressure showing on the gage when running, try a jumper across the oil pressure safety switch, if it stays running the switch is bad.
If that doesn't help, do the same thing with the high temp switch.

Just found that the throttle cable is broke can’t seem to find it in the manual does anybody know the part number and where to get one. Also could that be the problem because it isn’t letting the governor work right

Check the classifieds here or ck eBay, you can often find them from people parting out machines or find an equivalent substitute part. I think Green Mountain Generator had an alternate mfg. part that they were selling on eBay.

Ok thanks
Open a "Parts Wanted thread. Do NOT limit yourself. The cable for the MEP-003A will work too. Its just a bit longer. You can make a small loop someplace that is not in the way.
ok thanks

Very interesting. I have been advised otherwise by several people.
The regulator of an 002A or 003A supplies current to the control windings of CVT1 to lower the generator output. This current causes the magnetic amplifier (part of CVT1) to reduce its AC output to the diode bridge that supplies field current. This means that if the output is low, the regulator reduces its output to try to get the generator output up.

Other systems have regulators that directly supply field current, and those behave as you described.
