While I absolutely love the look of a 2 door and troop seats it seems that a 4 man setup would be a lot more comfortable, so it’s time to strip it down. I’m also thinking of putting in a middle bench seat -that would make keeping the kids seated a little easier. Got some cool things planned for this phase.

Got the truck outside waiting on parts to arrive, should be pretty cool, I’m pretty excited. I still have to go pick up a windshield frame from a buddy of mine which might hold me up… Anyways, I started to add more seats to the truck. That blue seat in the back I actually found on the side of the road about 2 years ago. I saved it and was going to use it in a deer stand but never did. Was a little shocked how much people want for high back seats, so glad I at least got one for free… stay tuned!

Still got some parts I’ve gotta get and some more to install but check this out! FYI I’m not done with the install yet, lots of little trim pieces to add, I just wanted to share some progress photos. The top and doors are made by a company out west called Pipe Dream Off-road. Bunch of really cool dudes making some very cool stuff for Humvee’s. The top is modular and you can pick if you want just the subframe, a fixed hardtop or a removable top. There are options for the back also, like a removable rear window or a fixed window. I only bought the subframe and will be adding the fixed top later on. the craftsmanship that is in these parts is over the top.

Ha! We actually had 6” of snow here early this year. That is incredibly rare though.

So I’m not sure if the front hood 2.5” body lift mounts are for an H1 brush guard or not. Couldn’t stand looking at those holes and also don’t find many of the brush guards appealing. So for $20 I got some rubber and made a push bumper. I’d still like to find a way to hide the lower portion of the radiator. Not sure how I’ll do that just yet.

A few weeks ago I was working under the Humvee and kept smelling fuel. Aside from needed a fuel tank vent hose I realized I forgot to install the rubber o ring gaskets on the fuel pump mount. The original ones were still on but they were paper thin. I don’t think this is why I was smelling fuel, but the last I want is my first time filling the tank up on this to result in a fuel leak. I took a moment to put some sealant on the brass fuel tank vent fittings too. Last thing I did was order custom fuel lines that are pressure tested. I ran into some issues with the fuel line push lock fittings not sealing well, so it just seemed smart to get some quality fuel lines made.

Pretty much got the fuel system dialed in now. I decided I would route the fuel lines through the fuel tank body lift block, this worked really well. Also, I had an odd issue with the taillights I needed to troubleshoot. For some reason I couldn't get the hazard lights to work in the rear, I was using a Hopkins signal converter to feed the brake signal into the turn signals and it worked great, but for some reason it just wouldn't allow rear hazards. I decided to try and use a pair of diodes and it worked perfectly. I hid all the wiring behind a second cover.

It’s not finished, but it’s good enough to take down the road. This thing absolutely Rips! What a blast of fun. I think every drive it gets better, the Holley is definitely learning. Smooth shifts all the way through 4th gear. Took it out to get some chow and over to my favorite spot in town. This thing gets some wild attention.

I have spent a little time driving this around and working out the little details. This thing is so much fun. Going LS was definitely something worth doing. Got the turn signals to light up on the dash, as well as high beam and fuel guage. I had a really tough time getting the Holley LiDAR unit to work properly so I tossed it in favor of a floatless unit. The quality of the Holley unit is junk, not even been exposed to the elements, aside for me washing it a few times, and it rusted up pretty good and the dip switches broke off when calibrating. The floatless is the way to go! One thing learned is that the sending unit needs to grounded into the dash, who knew… Still need to find a proper horn, get the gear shifter light working and the rest of the top finished.

I’m at the point where I’m seriously considering repainting my truck, mainly because the existing paint is pretty faded. Honestly, I probably wouldn’t bother with a full repaint if it weren’t for the drastic color difference between the powder‑coated parts and the rest of the body.


Right now, the half doors and windshield frame are powder coated in Prismatic AMS FED 34094. I’m still waiting on the rest of the hardtop components to come back from powder coating—I’m using the Pipe-Dream top and doors setup. I also picked up two quarts of genuine CARC Sherwin‑Williams 383 green, but I’m starting to wonder whether using CARC is even the best path.


I’ve seen a number of people paint their rigs with high‑quality exterior house paint, and I’m curious if that might actually make more sense from a durability and ease‑of‑application standpoint. If anyone has experience comparing BEHR or Benjamin Moore exterior paints to actual CARC, I’d really like to hear your thoughts. Regardless of what I end up using, I’ll be keeping the woodland camo paint scheme.
