For the M1151-A1 model

SHORTCUT PROCEDURE - NOT CORRECT

quick disclaimer, I had to replace it and I was struggling so much following procedure. I’ve found this shortcut. It is merely FYI

To replace the Parking brake (emergency brake) safety switch using a shortcut

YouTube video (https://m.youtube.com/shorts/MJqbU9nUbIA)

Part: 12356704 5578371 5930-01-183-6757

Manual: TM 9-2320-387-24-1

Tools:
- pocket knife
- 7/8” wrench

Procedure (**** shortcut *****)(not by the book)
- I don’t recommend working from within the cabin (maybe someone can comment and make suggestion otherwise or the proper way)
- go underneath and find the thick rubber
- make a slit cut in the rubber cover from the center of the brake switch all the way down
- you can now split open both sides of the cover to fit your wrench and easily replace the switch

So you can't really consider this minimally invasive anymore.

You've effectively changed the switch, but left the patient with a wound.

Every muddy road, snow, and ice... Everything will now get stuck there.

Despite warnings beforehand that this is not the correct way to do it... It's still a botched job.

If it's just a matter of getting back on the road quickly and cheaply... then it could have been solved more elegantly with cables. As it is, it's neither fish nor fowl.

Agree, agree and AGREE! In South Florida I’m not gonna go muddy crazy ;-(, so it is CLEAR this was/is a POOR workaround. Not intended for others to follow, just sharing. 👊🏻

Botched job? I kinda thought it was in line with what the doctor would do... thinking hip replacement or ??? Only thing missing were the stiches.

Old school paper punch and some zip-ties, stitch / lash it up... good for another 30 years. The big selector gap at the bottom is not stopping a thing.

I mean it is literally split at the bottom and you can get a wrench in there...
it is painful to watch...

…indeed there is an opening at the very bottom that you can insert a wrench from there
