Well. I got the dump body unbolted and sent it on to its future happy home this weekend. Frame and appontments look pretty good. Someone has been into the air pack as it is definately more recent than the rest.
No bed will make the brake work a lot easier.
My kingdom for a couple hundred hardwood blocks😆
An 8000lb forlift landed in the yard as well so now hopefully i wont slip a disc changing out the tires on the Buda.
We are some real steps closer to having the shop up, but i got called back to work early again so the next phase will have to wait.🫡

Well.. as luck would have it...i have very little🤣. I went and put the fire to the "no..no its all tight" forklift and..squirting green stuff from the thermostat housing lol. Lucky for me its made out of landcruiser parts so a quick call to the interweb netted me new upper and lower thermostat housings..that almost worked..so i had to blend away a bunch of the water pump and now..all better. So that blew up almost all of my time off. 3 boats later it looks like ill get a week maybe to come home and try again to make some progress..then another 3 huge mechanical jobs in nov/dec. Pray for rain. I can deal with rain.

Let me know what your guesses are as to what the green goo is on the screwdriver..🙈

Kind of...its tumeric. Ask me how i know?..when i was heating bolts for careful extraction it reeked like curry :ROFLMAO:
I made it home again yesterday morning after another 3 tug and barge refits.
Selpt the blissful sleep of the damned last night..some much needed shopping with the ever patient wife today and i should be on to welding the truss foundations to the sea cans if the weather holds up tomorrow.

What Sea Cans are you talking about ? Some new project ? Or is this work related.
I'm still trying to get my library in order. Installed more shelves, and I need to bring up 5 metal cabinets for my "Motor Manual" Collection.

The sea cans are the walls of the new shop. Im trying to get a 40x40 double truss enclosure up but work , life and inclement weather seem to be openly mocking me at this point.
The person (i use the term generously) that designed the enclosure to mount to a sea can has clearly never seen the top of one. Both their recomended installation methods are non starters.
I have the layout done. I need some 5" x3" x .375 angle, some 3" x .250 flat bar and 3 days of not december monsoon and i should have it nuked on...then i have to beat the snow and get the structure up.
Me in a 40' genie and my buddy mike and his hiab should be able to snap it together in a weekend, once the footers are welded.

Oh and i scored a Deere 4045AFM85..now im having intrusive thoughts. Seems like its right about the right size and output for one of the twins. It came from a marine generator, so not sure how much hassle it'd be to reflash the ecm.
That part of deere scares the crap outa me.$$
Its common rail electronic injection so maybe theres an aftermarket option for ecm.
Anyone out there with deere experience feel free to edjumacate me please.😁

I'm pretty sure they are close to CAT diesels system. At least the last one I looked at was.
I never heard of any aftermarket stuff for either CAT or John Deere on their injection systems either.
Not enough units out there for that.
Oh, and yes, the rain is getting kind of out of hand around here. Even for the Pacific North West. 🌧

That is crazy ! How long does it take your team to fix these shafts ? I would love to see the equipment you use to do it.
We were lucky with this one. There was just enough room to get the prop off without dropping the rudder. All i had to do was get it out of the way so we could pull the seal liner and seal goup. Then reverse. This was a small one, prop was only 14 tonnes. Last freighter i did had a 38.5 tonne wheel and it had broken the tailshaft and torn up the stern tube and bearing.

Good times.

I did some digging. It runs bosch piezo injectors. Bosch has a stand alone ecm that is compatible (call for price) as well there are a couple of euopean standalones that will run it and come with some base maps to start tuning from. Option 3 is crack the deere ecm..so its doable.
I think the wrinkle will be changing out the water cooled exhaust. It looks like the tractor stuff goes up over the valve cover greatly increasing the overall height, whereas the marine stuff wraps nicely around the back of the head.
We will see..
