Truck will be ready for pick up in a week or so but looking for an RGN. Truck has camper box and is length 33ft and 12ft, 5" tall. Standard width. I know height is an issue so I expect to let air out of tires as this is how truck was transported to sale site. We may even sit truck on low blocks with all air out but I won't know until I pay for it next week in person. This is my first LMTV/FMTV so still learning. Any leads or info from experts will be appreciated.

Is there a cargo cover on the truck? I am asking because I don't think you need an RGN for an FMTV. I have had both an M1085a1 AND M1078 hauled on step decks previously (to MD from KS and IN), but neither of my trucks had cargo covers on them. RGNs are going to cost you more money than a step deck. Of course, the issue with a step deck is that you would either need a loading ramp to load and unload the truck, or the trucker would need ramps. I would suggest that you search for a trucker with a step deck who has ramps. They are out there.

Thanks for the feedback. The problem (or reason I'm interested in it) is this truck has a camper mounted on back so it's pretty tall, like just over 12 ft tall just sitting there, thus the need for an RGN. I've never heard of a step deck being that low to stay under 14 ft overall but I'll ask around too. I agree that trying to get on oversize permit for height adds a lot of costs to the short haul.

Good Morning,

This is Eric with United States of Freight. I've assisted several members here on hauling all sorts of vehicles-- would be glad to help here. Based off of the height you listed, this will most certainly be requiring an RGN trailer. Please feel free to reach out at either 786-247-1022 or eric@unitedstatesoffreight.com. Look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you!

A M1083 is not an expansible van truck. Try to get an accurate description of what you need moved.

Thanks, I understand what an M1083 is vs an M1087. I'm asking to move an M1083 that has an equivalent of a camper mounted on top. There are many people out there that attempt to build overlanders with tiny homes on an M1083 family frame. The height is the issue for moving it.

Eric, please PM with a price. The truck can be driven on/off a trailer and weighs under 40k. Not sure what other info you need.

Got it. The subject of the post indicated the truck was an M1083 and that is what I was going on. Yes, you will need an RGN for an M1087.

Eric- I'll work with you via PM if you reach out. There's just too many brokers looking to pad their contact lists and end up texting/calling "potential" shipping opportunities every day. It's ridiculous how many calls I got when my phone number was posted on Uship....

I can vouch for United States of Freight. They have hauled for me previously. Good team there.
Thanks and I appreciate the vouch for them. But it is kinda weird that within mins of me posting here that Eric also posts to contact him but then goes radio silent for over a week when I ask to communicate. The ball is in his court- hopefully he PMs.

To finish up the thread, the truck got delivered today by a local owner-operator who owns multiple heavy, goose neck trailers. It took him a bit to find the right load but he was able to get me on a backhaul so my price was very reasonable. If anyone needs an owner-operator in Texas area, give C H Van Gundy Heavy Haul a shout. https://vangundyheavyhaul.com/

Thanks to all for the help.
