I'd like to do both engine preheat and a domestic hot water loop.

I did it for hot water only, and if you poke back through my build thread, you will find that I did it incorrectly the first time- no material consequence, just didn't actually get hot water. In other words- don't do this for your plumb-in points. Not nearly enough flow. My posts which follow that demonstrate that I didn't know the system like I thought I did.

A few posts further, I show the re-arranged heater core flow. There is an important detail mentioned in this post- to plumb in the shelter loop, you'll need to tap in to the heater core feed in parallel, otherwise you'll need the heater valve open whenever you want hot water.

This is the post showing how I plumbed mine. The two hoses in the lower right of the pic which head out along the frame rail are the ones to/from the shelter. The ones aimed to the top right are to/from the heater core. The components inside the shelter didn't require any changes through all this monkey business.

This was all done just to extract waste heat for hot water. I didn't investigate using a heater for motor pre-heat, but I do remember seeing several threads/posts regarding this. If you have the glycol heater plumbed into your motor, it would save you the hassle and expen$e of finding a dual coil water heater, but you'll need to know where in the coolant circuit to connect it as it'd be silly to run it just to heat the radiator side of a closed thermostat.
