54C is the fuel solenoid circuit, on some vehicles the diode is used for noise suppression, in some cases may be used to suppress radio interference but not likely here as the solenoid is ether on or off so would not be an interference issue.
In any case you should unplug it as it is possible shorting the run signal to ground.
It also has nothing to do with the cut radio harness as they are totally different circuits, but you do need to track down the other ends of that harness and disconnect them.
You will probably need to clean all the oil/grease off of steering pump area so you can see where the leak originates

I am picking up a M1097A2 truck next week. I have basically the same plan for mine as you have. I'm looking forward the process
Welcome to the SS forums.
On your other post to a thread that was over a year old, you should browse the parts for sale classifieds or post a want there.

Was able to get working on the HMMWV.

Traced the power steering fluid leak to a hose by the power steering fluid reservoir. Replaced it and bled the system. Pumping breaks, turning wheels to full right and left, continuously depressing the brake pedal with engine running was key. All working good now.

Replaced the windshield.

Went to 40” for wheels. Info below for who needs it.

Wheels
Black Rhino Hard Alloys ARSENAL
Size: 17X9.5
Bolt pattern: 8X6.5
Backspace: 5.72
Offset 12mm
Part number: 1795ARS128165M22

Tires: Mickey Thompson Baja boss M/T
Height 40
Width: 13.5”
Wheel diameter: 17”

Wheel poke 2.5”

Vehicle: M1097A2 currently no rubbing (no off-roading, just pavement). Slight contact with exhaust tip (fixed with a little persuasion and a pry bar).

When installing the reverse light switch and light, where did you guys pull the positive source from?

I went up to the horn and pulled power from before the horn in the circuit.
You can hook it in after the horn, but then every time your reverse light is on the horn will sound. Figuring out which was which is trial and error, or unplug the wires and see which side has the voltage.

Any switched power source will work. I chose horn because it only works when the light switch is on. The fan circuit would also work (the Red Dot aircon system uses it for a power signal), it would work any time the start switch is in the run position.

Oh, and for your exhaust being a little close to the tire, just kick it forward a couple times and it should shift. There is a flange connection just inside the frame rail that allows for a little bit of a change in direction, and just good old kicking (or prying, or anything to apply forward force on it) will give you a little more clearance for the tire.
It would take a lot to actually damage it, but picking up something with your tire and hitting it at speed might be able to

Eric Hummer H1 makes hard roofs all the time. You should reach out to him via PM

Might not respond quickly if he doesn’t turn on his StarLink, but I’m sure he will respond.
Got it. I’m planning on making my own from scratch with flat door.

Quick questions: is the grounding kit necessary? I’d rather take care of it now if so. Anything in the same realm necessary?
