M35a2 Wiring Harness Trouble

I have a alternator conversion wire harness that connects to the cannon plug of the front harness. But I am confused by the two #5 wires (one on the kit & on the main harness). What do I do with them?

Connect them? If you're referring to the 14 gauge wire, that is your field wire and without it you won't charge.

I'm in the process of replacing the front wiring harness, and I took notes (and drew pics, but only I can interpret my chicken-scratching :-D).
@silverstate55 harness routing guide helped me map out my accidental restoration on my 1967/8 REO. Previous owner(s) rewired so much of it that tracing the original paths was nearly impossible. Having the plug numbers and actual routing documented gave me a solid reference point to work from.

Solid documentation. Still useful a decade later.
