Mep 803 Frozen Front Panel Hinge

This is the second time this has happened, this last freeze I went to start the generator in 22 degree temps and rain. The hinge on the front door was froze solid and I couldn't get the door up without a lot of force. Didn't want to bend the door or do other damage so I poured some hot water on it. What would be a good way of stopping this from happening? I thought of putting some duct tape over the hinge to keep the ice down. Anybody have a remedy?

If you can get your hands on a scrap of rubber roofing, I just lay pieces over my machines big enough to overhang the edges a little.
It's heavy enough to not be able to blow away in the wind.
if you need to use the machine you can just fold it back where needed ( radiator air outlet, exhaust pipe etc. )

Duct taper will create a mess.... the sun will quickly deteriorate it and the remaining glue is a bear to clean off.

I was thinking I have an old mud flap that I could over hang a little bit and the wind shouldn't blow it off. Thanks for an idea Ray70

With all the frozen rain they are getting everything has a good bit of ice coating on all of it. We are a mess over here right now!! Send some warmth this way was Neg 6 F last night.

That stuff works great!!

Cook the moisture out of it with a torch or heat gun, then hose the hinge down with oil. I would think it would retain enough to keep the water out of the barrel/pin.
The mud flap should take care of it though.

Also throw some WD40 on there, it will keep the water off the metal. maybe find something to create an overhang to prevent the hinges from getting wet?

Mud flap and oil

I have a cover for my 803A, but use mud flaps elsewhere on the ranch.

Old mud flaps are like WD40 cans…….Always have a few extra sitting around.

Hopefully our below freezing weather in the teens is over but I'm going to try the mud flap and oil trick and then leave the mud flap on there for the summer to keep the leaves out of the radiator vent

FWIW: If you can't find rubber roofing, or mud flaps, I am using a couple of large rubber floor mats that seem to keep water and debris out pretty well.

Any farm store will have stall mat material.
It’s inexpensive and you can cut to fit.
