MEP 803A blowby

I Recently purchased an MEP 803A with only 30 hours showing on the meter. The outside of the generator and engine look brand new. While the generator was running I took the oil cap off and noticed some blowby. There was no white smoke or strong vapor escaping from the hole. When I placed my hand on top of the hole I could feel a suction. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated.

If you feel vacuum when you put your hand on the fill port, you're good to go!
At first glance you might think you have blowby because the crankshaft is whipping around in the oil splashing oil and creating air pulses in the crankcase, which often seems like blowby, but as you said, you feel suction when you block the hole with your hand. That means all is working as expected!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the information!
Just a thought with that low of hours I'd run the heck out of that thing and find all the weak points like fuel return lines and connections. I wouldn't worry about blow by since it isn't really broke in yet. Has it been reset or not if it has the tag on it still?

There’s not tag on it that shows it was rest and there aren’t any holes in it where someone would have pulled it off.

I’m purchasing a couple of electric garage heaters (4500 watts each) and I plan on running it at half load for a couple of hours then at full load for a few of hours.

Actually, I think if you zoom in, that one looks to me like just a snazzy inventory tag. Could just be my lousy eyesight of course.

All the best, 2PbFeet
You are correct, a newer style inventory tag. The TIER would be above this if present. Sometimes if its only gotten Tier 1 work, its affixed somewhere to the inside of the set.

I don't think I ever had a tri-color Tier 2 reset machine either.
Every tier 2 I ever got was tan.
I did have a couple a pair of 802's that went through some lower level refurb program ( IIRC all they did was repair a few known issues under this program )

I've seen a couple for sale on the West Coast. 🤷‍♂️

You know, I never really kept track... but I can't think back to a reset machine in my hands that wasn't tan. I bet that was part of the standard retrofit out of PA.

Here’s a little better picture of the tag.

I did look around the inside of the generator to see if there was something attached to the inside. I didn’t see anything but that’s not to say I missed it.
