NP 205 transfer case - oil change

Greetings from Germany.

The Lubrication Order says that Dexron III should be used in the transfer case but it does not differentiate between the kind of the transfer case.

Some guys say you have to use 80W90 gear oil without the LS lube in the NP205.

Now what is the truth here?

DEXRON III or higher. LO states 5 quarts but it is wrong on the capacity. Fill until the fluid starts to come out of the fill hole.

if you use 80/90 the friction of the oil can turn other gears.

No service needed till the oil leaks stop leaking, then it's low

I use the same Dexron as the trans. I'm almost positive the 205 used both gear oil and ATF over the years but some have synchros and I believe those require ATF but not confirmed. If the TM says Dexron then Dexron it is.
