We couldnt go ahead on the Chevy.
After bringing the trailer for roadregistration and technical test he wont fired up again after park him in the Shop.

We gone through the complete glowplug circuit and figured out all 8 glowplugs was gone!

20251101_105425.jpg 20251101_102643.jpg

This was Börg Ecotherm glowplugs which should not swallen up easy. And it seems it work well in our case.

20251114_191044.jpg

After a talk with the shop which done technical test for roadregistration in September could we be sure they burned our glowplugs.
They had a problem of start the truck by not knowing the specific start procedure on this old engines.
As he wont start they run the starter of several minutes.

When we drove home from the shop we had just only 3 times to start the truck again and every time it become harder. As also the temperature outside fallen down 10 degree Celcius.

We bought new glowplugs and waiting for a new glowplug card from hillbilly wizard, fopr the possibility the glowplug card had a failure.
Unfortunately our order stick in germanys tax office. I guess about the declaration and the image they had found be scan. Inside was the card, an original 24 V Gauge (or original is broken and we used an aftermarket Gauge) and a complete powerdistribution (ours miss the covers).
So if you dont hear anything again from us than we are prisoned as suspected terrorist :ROFLMAO: also if i search in the past weeks of the ABCA M43A or M43A1 Chemical Detector to complete the original equipment from the truck.

As the card will not arrive soon start we yesterday the truck again with the new glowplugs. He fired up immediatly.

Lesson learned:
- Dont give the truck in hands they dont know to this ....
- AND dont park the truck in such wise in the shop by block with him all others inside ....

20251122_092239.jpg

Of course than other things broken like the rear spring in our Volvo XC 70 which we repair in front of the shop. Not nice by cold weather but fortunately no rain.

So yesterday we parked him right back on the lifter.

Screenshot 2025-11-23 102003.png

Let him warm up for a while also to test if the heater work fine. And i must say, like i remember, the heater always worked great.

20251122_101726.jpg

The plate on the trailer looks ugly...
I have asked the shop which done for our M38A1 the cover in the 90th for the estimate costs on a cover for the trailer like the orighinal one in canvas green.

1990-19.jpg

the said around 1700 Euro.
Thats ok for that great quality they deliver

We had like to go on with the tachometer but yesterday was hunting season in our area and i have to protect our Mini-Shetlands as not to be mistaken for a wild boar, specially our dun girly. So we stay always on that hours in our area by the horses side.

20250508_035032z.JPG

the drafthorses should not be in danger, it us more up on the hunters if they come in their area

I was just at Zoll to fight over a book. Normally they are pretty easy here, but a new Chief here, and he is a butt head.

Are all the hunters up there blind? Ours are not that dumb as to shoot a pony. Well, most of them anyway.

As Head Treiber here in Burgkunstadt, and having been in the middle of a wild pig stampede, there is no way I would think your Shetlands are a wildschwein.

Well it happen here in Germany that hunter shoot a pony by mistaken and not only a pony ... Its not usual but take care is better than having a dead pony. They think here they own the area they had rent for hunting. There is no minimum distance to buildings = farms or villagehouses, or horsepastures to shoot. They have to care to shoot only the season wild animals. I dont remove power of our electric fences just that they know we are present. Sometimes they open and dont close again. Its always better here to check when they leave the area.

The rules here are much stricter. There are house/farm distances that must be adhered to. 15 years ago, on a hunt here outside of town, one of our dumb hunters shot too close to a house, and the OberJäger not only banned him for LIFE, to hunt in this area, but he had to pay a fine also. The shot came down on the roof and walls of the house. Two years later, another fool shot over the heads of two of my Treiber, (MY KIDS, mind you) and he got the same. Banned for life in Landkries Lichtenfels. You need to have a real serious talk with the jagdpächter if they if they act that stupid.

Its here not with that strict rules. But they have to inform all farms and houses around that they will have their Hunt. It was Saturday from 12 am to 4 pm.
This year i didnt see anyone near us but i heard their shots near by. Our horses be always alert and in tension, but not serious if they are in this far distance. Only if they walk of our area... they had ask if they can pass our paddocks. I dont advice this as our area with the horses inside are a dangerzone. 1000kg in protectionmood include fear is not to handle! Last year the pass by in 300m and got a good impression what we mean with it. The drafts protect the mini shetlands. They are just 80 cm, not much bigger as a st bernhards dog.
Good to hear that you have there banned such dumb hunters.

But i must also confess our dun girly is a specialist in hide... in a distance she melt with nature...

Finally after 3 weeks we got our goods.
Not open package, all fine. Why it took this long time just know Fedex. They dont told me in which taxoffice our order stuck after their message delay is upon the taxoffice. I am pretty sure they lost it and need that time to find it again 🤬

However it is worth the money

Our original Voltmeter is gone. Dont work anymore.

IMG-20251206-WA0001.jpg

IMG-20251206-WA0000.jpg

This one is of course used and in good working condition.

The resistor is also working, will clean it and store as spare

20251206_092757.jpg

The distributor block was only bought of the covers, as our was missing them all the years, he comes without them as we bought him

20251206_092734.jpg

Finally complete, looks pretty good

20251206_100338.jpg

The best product the new CUCV Glowplug card. Works like the original which is still good functional and will store as spare. The second original card shown no waitlight. We will explore them to check if we also could rebuild a new one. Always good not to be dependend on other.

20251206_093209.jpg

Obove original, the other the new from hillbilly wizard

20251206_092717.jpg

Comes with instruction for additional features.

Truck fired up immediatly like with original card. Just plug and play.

I also start with the tachometer. Its not so easy like expected. Comes with good instructions and trouble shooting. Should be to fix. Will go to the troubleshooting soon.

You need to enter this truck in the Truck of the month contest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Never think of that i have a chance as the most like tuned trucks.

Now i am missing only the ABC Equipment. Hillbilly offered a mounting bracket but as i ordered it was out of stock ☹.
The radioequipment and bracket from the bed and the cover from the bed 😅 ....

We wasnt lazy these holidays but we had another Glowplug Problem...
Really complete unexpected. 🧐
We had now all parts in that circuit new except the wiring. And it failed again. Just after one Starting Sequence!
Again a complete failure of all plugs and they plugs with the advertisment will not swell ... swollen by burn out. 🤬
Fortunately only one stuck a little bit and come out without loosing parts or damage.

About this we ordered new set of 60G Plugs to be on the safe side for future.

IMG-20251101-WA0005z.JPG

The starting squence was exactly how it should go.
Ignition on, Waitlight on, Waitlight out and first attempt just 3-4 seconds. Come up in time and run.
Second attempt later that day. Same procedure, but no fire up anymore.
That was the moment where i was be sure there is again a failure on the system. I didnt try again.
Just start the Troubleshooting and so we gone these days through the recommondated troubleshooting in the TMs.
Several days went where we nothing found. I really start hating this Truck. So much time and so much money to earn this worse case.
But i am not the one i am if i let me stop of such things.
Finally we found a bad "new" temperature sensor.

20251231_104521z.JPG

So this mean after ordering again a new temperatur sensor, that we will check the function before use it in the truck.

This is the second time where we found broken "new" parts in this project... not just an Aftermarket Problem in our cases. It happen also on German products, for those who think always aftermarket or chinese are guilty.

For sure the glowplugs was also gone before of that issue. Only that the shop run long cranking periods had cover this issue.

How ever the Glow Plug system in originally condition work fine and done what it had to do by not getting temperature. It went on all after start with the longest circuit which blown away our sensitive 13G glowplugs in seconds. Thats why we go now the save route with 60G Plugs.

We also got our compressor but this is still in the box as first should be solve our Glowplug issue.

20251220_061257z.JPG

It comes with an additional german translation of the installation guide 😎

IMG-20251217-WA0000z.JPG

a nice small hopefully powerfull compressor which just fit in the engine compartment.
It had not be bigger... or we had to find anywhere else a place.
For our purpose just the right size.

Today we checked the new temp sensor.
Ordered with the part number from the TM for the temp sensor 25036092

Screenshot_20260110_183218_Samsung Internet.jpg

Screenshot_20260110_180359_Gallery.jpg

And now coming to the troubleshooting for the glowplugsystem

Screenshot_20260110_180309_Drive.jpg

I could't got anywhere 80 Ohm
My reading for example 50°C said 1103 Ohm

Screenshot_20260110_180158_Drive.jpg

So i try to verify by testing on which temp the glowplugs will be shut down from the module.

My check shown the temp sensor give the signal by 40°C to the module.

I am not sure how trustfully are the values in this troubleshooting. Specially no source is noted for this. I can convince that the route going through troubleshooting is good but the the difference in the values are not to deny.

This was my testsolution:

Disconnect both glowplugs bankwire, simulating watertemp with water. Starting the glowplugsystem by checking the temp until the tempsensor stop the glowplugs by the module.

20260110_110227.jpg

The new module have a red LED which light up if the glowplugs works

Screenshot_20260110_175223_Gallery.jpg

So i could identify exactly the temperature when the glowplugs will be shut down.

There was today just time to mount the compressor. The electric and the airlines must be done next week.

I'm not sure if you already have this, but the colorized Glow Plug Circuit diagram might help you to understand where the problem may be. The Wire Size page translates the indicated wire sizes into actual wire gauge sizes. Hope this helps.

Thanks Sharecropper,

we have similar information not exactly the same. It is good to mentioned them here for other who search in similar issues.

Our wiring is correct and all parts on the circuit are new except the untouched stockwiring itself but every wire was checked and controlled if they work (no hidden damage or cracks).

It had not prevent our failure of a faulty new sensor.

The G13 glowplugs are known for their sensitivity. And if just one failed will the other follow very fast in a chainreaction.
Some change yearly their G13plugs to prevent to oversee a damaged plug.

We set a regular maintenance schedule with checking glowplugresistance and the other units in the circuit for future.

New Glowplugs, new temp-sensor, all checked and he run again 🥳
Who knows what next prank he has in store for us? 😇
Still waiting for the appraisal... which i will also share with all the followers of our rebuild.

But here i have for you all the costs and the time we needed to come to our road licence as an oldtimer and our vendor list:

Wanted to go on fixing that damned tachoproblem today
but than I break my elbow this morning falling on an icy sidewalk.
After i had stayed some hours in the emergencyroom could i go home for today,
Great, I've hit the jackpot. At least six weeks before I can properly grip anything again.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
Next week will be surgery after this it should be soon possible to move again but without load on it.
For now i have a castrail bent the arm before my stomach.
Fortunately the left arm. I am righthanded.
Old age said its easier to brake bones. Reaching 62 seems to proove that.

You could just stand there and give orders to everyone in a ten KM radius on what to do, and how. You know, Boss Lady at work. You don't have to turn the wrench, just "Supervise!"
i am not that kind of person for just do supervise...i contribute what i can with this restriction. And its still a lot which is possible. but the work on the wiring will delay. We filled up the dashboard that it need now small hands to go through it. Such a big truck but now no space anymore.
Got right now the phonecall for the surgery: will be tommorow. So it will be soon better.

It's bad when you unexpectedly have so much time and internet access... result: searching for truck parts. 😇 :ROFLMAO:
