So, any chance F14’s might be back in the menu after “current events”???

I had a close friend that worked for a division of Singer Inc. (yeah, sewing machine company), and he did simulator service for the USAF. I was in flying classes in a 152 then, and said he was sure I could get some time in that sim.

It was crazy by comparison to my fledgling piloting skills. Needle Ball & Airspeed was not near enough in that beast, it took a good half hour before I even had it off the runway.

When my time ran out, we moved to another room.

This was the A10 Warthog sim. By comparison, it was a lot easier, but a pig to fly. A very powerful pig.

However, flying an airborne M1 Abrams with full munitions load was indeed a wet dream. I destroyed lots of buildings between Dateland and Yuma, AZ. Wheee!

I was thinking about the F-14 today, mainly because I have a Transformer figure of an F-14 from the Transformers X Top Gun collab sitting on my desk right now.

Apparently when the Super Hornet was being considered, there was a Super Tomcat 21 concept that would've redesigned the cockpit, including a new windshield and glass displays. A new radar and other cool stuff like the JHMCS would've allowed for the jet to carry the advanced Sidewinders, AMRAAMs, and other standoff weapons.

Alas, the rule of cool doesn't work in real life :p
