Space Between Roof Panels

I'm preparing to install a couple of map lights in the interior roof panel of my M1028 and would like to know how much space there is between the interior and exterior panels. I need to drill a couple holes for the wiring and sure don't want to dimple the exterior roof panel (or drill through, Heaven forbid). Has anybody seen a cross-section of the interior space of the cab roof? It appears that there may be more room at the rear of the cab than in the front.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just installed two roof mounted lights inside my M1010. Had to drill a 2 1/4" inch hole for the recessed lights.
I used these:
Recessed Lights

There is about 3/4 of an inch between the inner and outer layers of the roof. There is also a felt type liner between the two metal layers. Fishing the wire up the A pillar can be done with some patience. Use a metal fish tape to go to the sun visor hole. Then down the A pillar to a hole just above the vent.

Perfect. Thanks!

Haha that's fair. One or the other.

I have previous owner PTSD where they just randomly drill holes in the trucks I've owned. Drives me nuts. You can only drill a hole in the headliner if you promise to keep the truck forever!
