Strange Humvee data plate

After not owning a Humvee for several years, I’ve got the bug to have one again. In searching for one, I came across this one. This is very clearly a legitimate Humvee, but it is licensed as a 1984 chev 2500 pickup. The data plate looks very legit but is definitely not the one it came with. Predator is mentioned on this plate. Did they do some kind of frame/body alteration to make these plateable as a chev?

Early 90's...some people got hmmwv bodys and put them on Chevy suburban / truck frames.

Back in the 90s, HMMWVs were demil coded and couldn’t be titled with SF97s, this was someone’s attempt at circumventing that issue. Data plates can be made inexpensively.

what state is it titled and registered in?

Even if it has legit looking documents, if your state requires a post certified inspection as part of title/register process; I suspect a sharp officer will notice the scratches that shows clearly the data plate has been changed.

If this much alteration to a data plate has been made, I would have no faith in the drivetrain or overall condition of the truck. Everything would be suspect in my world. YMMV

Look elsewhere.

Either this vehicle had the body swapped to a suburban frame, which means it’s no longer a HMMWV, or… this vehicle had its data plate altered in another country. That would lead to felony charges in the United States and international felony and fraud charges driving over the border from Canada.

If you ever cross the border they might even try to seize it.

If you try to sell it to an American all Heck might break loose. There was an RV driver recently with an American RV that the American manufacturer did not properly place a VIN upon. He tried to cross the border from Canada to sell the vehicle, and wound up with $600,000 US in fines. Made the news. Google it on the YouTube station Lehto’s Law.

Don’t just walk away… RUN away.

All IMHO
