I needed another shelter like another hole in my head, I have 4, 3 S788s and a maint. shelter, so this maint. shelter pops up and is in better shape than the one I bought a couple months ago,it did not get a bid the first time so they re-listed it with a much lower starting bid, so I put a low ball bid in.
Then this S805/G shelter pops up and it has a Harris RF382 tuner clearly visible, it went off first so I won that bid, then I was kinda hoping someone would out bid me on the maint. shelter but no, I got it too.
I felt pretty damn good about the S805/G shelter considering I have seen just bare RF-382s sell for more than I paid for the shelter, until I got a good look at it when loading it, now I am feeling even better as it has a 3 cyl turbo diesel generator with a Kubota D722 engine, and they were nice enough to leave the "ship/shore" panel in place and they even left me the gen control panel with a clock showing 55hrs!
This shelter is a little shorter than the S788, it ends at the back of the truck, but I think I have found my mobile shack/camper!
Before I realized it had an APU I was wondering what those air lines dangling down with quick disconnects were for, but they turned out to be fuel lines
I have not found any ID or data tags on the gen (other than the D722 casting in the block) so I do not know what it is rated for, the factory specs for a D722 is 15KW, so I would assume it would be pushing a 10K or so gen head, heck I may have to stuff a couple of my Harris RF110A amps in there.

It even has the ladder(s) never got them before in a shelter

I and the net are wrong, this shelter is not the same as the Gichner GSS-1497A.
I have seen many pictures of that shelter and it does more or less end at the back of the body.
But it is clear when looking at the "shadow" left by the fender that this hangs 17 or more inches past the body, the rear mounts would have to mount to the rear bumper similar but not the same as a S788, the main difference is the shelter body does not widen and drop down behind the tail lights like the S788 but this one look to be the same length as a S788
So even the attached data plate is wrong

These shelters have books bit they do not assist much. I need to know what the system data plate says. Just the NSN and designation. Those tunnel gens are 10KW. They come in 2 types. A 120/240, or a 3 phase. The AC unit was usually a 18K BTU. Let me know.
It looks to be single phase, all the switches/breakers for external/APU/Inverter power are double not triple, although it has a single phase "eye" under a cap, not sure what that is for unless you would try to switch from one power source to another instantaneously.

You are correct as the antenna tuner is worth the price of admission. Typically always removed at demill. Very few leaked out attached on any type of surplus. What are your plans for the tuner?

I have seen many m1097's last year with shelter rails and mounts for the unit to poke out further than the tailgate down with the special chains at gp Mobile but no shelters with them. Sometimes you can find info on the gichner website.

It am thinking of using with a few mods for adventure and some field day work.
I am a tuner junkie, I have stacks of them, I do have the Harris antenna for this setup although that system in itself is limited but is quicker to deploy than getting out the slingshot or support poles to string an end fed wire or dipole.
I would run it stand alone as I do not have 5K to drop on a radio when for whole lot less I can drop in a ham rig that goes from DC to Daylight
There are many ways other folks can go, tent, pop up etc. and that is fine I have done it all, especially when your out in the desert or up in the Mountains where it gets cool in the evening but on the Texas coastal plains where it at times gets all the way down to 88-90 deg and 85% humidity at night and the salt skeeters are as big as crows you need solid walls and refrigeration ;)

I found a thread about the same setup in another section, I also managed to get the gen set pulled out far enough to see the data plate, it is a MEP-903C
Guyfang had posted the TM there so I have that, Thanks Guyfang!!
All the rollers are disintegrating on the tracks that allow the gen set to be pulled in and out so I am going to have to remove the gen set and the track ass. and figure out how to replace all the rollers, it looks like I could turn out some on my lathe out of aluminum instead of the crap plastic they used.
The gen set was built in 2002 so it is the newest military machine that I own!

The system data plate is located on the door usually. It is a SICPS, CPP, SSS, or something like that. I will attach manuals on the tunnel gen. The shelter is designed to use fuel directly from the vehicle fuel tank, or an external source. Be careful pulling out the gen as some folks remove or make unusable the stops and that 1000 pound thing will land on you. if not locked in positioned, you make a left turn and the gen exits the shelter. Big mess. I will try to pick out things I am allowed to send. Some system manuals are not allowed to be sent. This may take a while. The Tunnel gens are not in the TM section. We have not got that far yet. Now the shelter may be the same unless you find the system data plate and not just the shelter. This way you can see what it used to be and how it worked and then you can turn it into the camper , hunting wagon, weekend trip thing.

I'll sift thru the 100 GIGs of system books and pick out things. Just by site I am guessing a CPP which means you have a power entry vault. Would be nice if it were something else like a profiler or something.
Thank you very much for the manuals.
