To Clear Coat Wheels, or Not?

Hello! I’m new at this. I just bought a 1984 5 ton and recently acquired a set of combat rims. I ended up stripping them down to bare metal and repainting them In flat OD green. A painter that I know suggested that I clear coat them. It didn’t make any sense to me to clear coat a military wheel, but was wondering on other people’s thoughts on the matter.

Clear coat = shiny and the military likes it flatter than Kansas. The military can make some dumb decisions too. It's your truck so do what makes you happy.

Your friend was probably saying that because flat paint will fade. it is made to.

Clear coat might just keep that from happening, but they will just look like you shot them with gloss paint.

There is such a thing as flat clear-coat. Keeps the base coat from fading but does not look shiny.
