Quite the effort.
Surprised you didn’t paint the hubs before installing the tires.
Looks good.

The DOT/State Police will pull you over for not having the safety chains crossed as required.
The aluminum carabiner on the breakaway cable will not pass pass either.

They do look at every trailer hookup they pass.
That is all true but my odds of WYHP finding me are pretty low since this is a big state and there numbers are low, but still could have happened. We do not have inspection laws here but we can be given a deficiency card and given a time period to to rectify the deficiency.

I can paint the bearing covers anytime but was not a high priority on this job.

Crossing safety chains is not required in Colorado, only that they be used. Breakaway brakes are only required for trailer weight of 3,000 lbs. or more and no requirement on an aluminum carabiner or not. he's in Wyo., who knows what they do and do not allow........I'll shush and go back to Star Trek.

Here is more than you ever wanted to know on trailer safety chains:

Most military oe chain hooks would not pass standards as they don't not have a latch to keep from coming off due to vibration.

Great info. and I strongly recommend follow the DOT rules; they are "next level" safe. Not trying to start an argument, just stating that the Federal DOT "rules, regulations and guidelines" are not enforceable as state law in many areas. Their enforcement is limited to interstate and intra-state commercial carriers only and also "mostly", only enforceable by state Troopers, who are trained as commercial vehicle inspectors. Here in the Peoples Republik of Colorado, only state / local law is enforceable on the green machines we drive.

I thought I'd take a look at the post, it never hurts to refresh good towing habits...

Followed the link, and what greeted me is a bad AI generated photo at the top of the article. That was enough for me. How much faith are you going to have in the article when the author (if there is an actual author and not just more AI slop) can't take the time to either take a photo, or get an actual photo someone else took to top the article.

I have been wanting to change the wiring and air lines on my 1954 M 269 wrecker trailer . I changed the light cord from the military to the 7 way round pin at the back of the truck 1967 m52a2 and will keep the military plug in behind the cab .
The 1954 m269 came with an 6 volt 12 volt and 24 volt m series plug ports I will only go back with a 7 way and will be able to use the black out lights . The trailer has a metal bottom in the neck that only catches dirt and I started removing and will clean up and repaint . I want to clean up the nose where the holes are and make a place the hook the winch line .

Hello everyone. I believe I’m in the right spot (mods please yell at me if I’m not) and the new thing I did to my trailer is acquire it and trailer it myself from three states over back to Montana in a whim.

I picked up an M416 (unsure if it’s a regular M416,A1, or B1). I don’t know a lot of about these but after reading and researching I took the plunge with the intent to build a unique kayak hauler. I also acquired an M1101 as well for a simple camping build.

Anyway, I know you are all picture fiends (as am I) so here yah go!

The can holders and smaller diameter lifting hoops would indicate it's an m416b1. The data plate is definitely a replacement, and it's on typical m416/m151 steel wheels instead of the mighty mite wheels.

From what I can tell there should be another data plate somewhere but don’t see it. Do we think it’s a B1 given the rings and can holders?
Usually there’s a small plate on the right side of the frame but it’s just the responsible agency. B1 data plates were probably a hard to find item so they get changed out for a regular m416 plate if needed. I think the b1 I use to own had “b1” hand stamped on the plate afterwards.
Yes the can holders and thinner lifting rings are only spec for the b1 series trailers. Regular m416s used by the USMC had the lifting rings added but they’re thicker diameter and further back than the rings on a b1.
